I felt this belonged here rather than in the NC Sports thread, because the sporting event it happened at was more or less the backdrop, and it's a political issue at its center.
The organizers of the Australian Open tennis tournament have reprimanded Martina Navratilova and John McEnroe over a tandem protest the two held on court after Navratilova had finished a veteran doubles match. The pair were protesting an earlier ceremony to honor Margaret Court, an Australian woman who is the winningest female tennis player in history with 24 grand slams titles, and after whom one of the arenas at Melbourne Park is named. After her match, Navratilova began to give a speech but her microphone was cut off; subsequently, she and McEnroe unfurled a small handmade banner on the court advocating that the stadium be renamed after another Australian champion, Evonne Goolagong.
