Very insightful piece by Suzanne Moore. Her targets are British but the general line of her argument will be clear to people from many other places, too, and particularly the US. The same piece, I am sure, could be written of many other countries, with only the names and details changed.

The immediate occasion of the piece is an incident on the BBC's current affairs show when the actor Laurence Fox, in the course of an argument with a BAME woman in the audience about whether the criticism of the Duchess of Sussex was racist, made some extremely stupid remarks, and which she must have found quite offensive, mocking the idea of white privilege.

These people are the establishment. White privilege and casual sexism is the sea they tend to swim in. Attention-seeking haters such as Katie Hopkins and strangely bitter successes such as Piers Morgan help spawn these posh understudies.

Their side has won, so why are they such losers? Why are their egos so fragile? And why are they so easily rattled if they are only saying what ordinary people think, as they like to suggest?

Piers Morgan is what MRAs call a 'beta cuck'. He snipes and flees in hopes that alphas will tolerate his presence and perhaps even bestow title of 'honourary alpha'.

bitter successes such as Piers Morgan help spawn these posh understudies.
Which makes liddle Fox here, a beta's beta.

I spotted this, in The Times, which gives quite a good account of the exchange, and puts it in a wider context, including Piers Morgan fulminating on breakfast TV:

(Incidentally, I have never understood why on earth people want to watch Piers Morgan being Piers Morgan at any time of the day or night, but over breakfast, for heaven's sake? What sort of people want him ranting away over the toast and cornflakes?)

Lisa Nandy, a British Labour MP who is running in the election to replace Jeremy Corbyn as party leader, had this exchange with Piers Morgan today:

No, I don't understand why he was complaining to her about the couple, either, so I assume it's just another symptom of his monomania.

She's very unlikely to win the election, which is really between Keir Starmer and Rebecca Long Davis, but she's certainly impressing a lot of people and I assume her candidature is primarily intended to raise her profile and establish her as someone who commands a considerable amount of support in the party, thus positioning her for a senior position with the eventual winner and to position herself for a subsequent leadership challenge.

That situation could've gotten a little hairy, it's true.

@katewillett in a previous life, i too fought bernie bros on here. But when my uninsured boyfriend died last year, a lot of people gave me love, but only bernie supporters took my hand and joined me in the fight to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else. I love those motherfuckers.

In 2019 Americans went to the library more often than to cinemas. No joke.

“Visiting the library remains the most common cultural activity Americans engage in, by far. The average 10.5 trips to the library U.S. adults report taking in 2019 exceeds their participation in eight other common leisure activities. Americans attend live music or theatrical events and visit national or historic parks roughly four times a year on average and visit museums and gambling casinos 2.5 times annually. Trips to amusement or theme parks (1.5) and zoos (.9) are the least common activities among this list.”
