Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg has been forced to resign amidst the continuing fallout from the deadly 737 MAX project. Boeing halted production on the MAX last week, and it will remain on hold until the FAA re-approves the line's airworthiness.
Muilenburg has been replaced by board chairman David Calhoun for the time being.
Separately over the weekend was the first unmanned operational test of the CST-100, Boeing's new Starliner space capsule, intended to ferry passengers and supplies to the ISS (and eventually beyond). The Starliner launched successfully, but a computer glitch during an orbital insertion burn put it in an orbit different from the intended one, and made a docking attempt with the ISS impossible. Despite not being able to test the docking procedures, Starliner went on to finish its first flight with a landing at White Sands, New Mexico. Starliner is the first American space capsule to touch down on land, in the manner of the Russian Soyuz; all previous capsules from Gemini to SpaceX have splashed down in the ocean.
