Cutting trees for decoration seems more like desecration.

You're not wrong there. I love the smell of a fir tree in my house, but it just feels wrong to have a young tree cut down, then disposed of a couple of weeks later. I have a nice fake tree instead. And a Christmas tree scented Glade plug-in.

As long as they come from a commercial tree farm, there is nothing wrong with that. It is the same as buying a cabbage or onions.
At commercial tree farms, they work the soil after the harvest of the trees and then replant new tree siblings, who will shine within a decade as Christmas tree somewhere. Rinse and repeat.
At least that is where the Xmas trees come from over here.

Now ruining nature to harvest the big ones to put on squares, before churches etc, that is another story.

I use an artificial tree, not because that is better for the environment (they are not) but because I don't want all the insects and spiders in the house that come as a free gift with real trees.
