A Christian friend once asked me if I missed having a tree. I said it was enough that I could look at my friends'.
I've never had a "Hanukkah bush". It's not a real thing (although some tree-envious people may do it).
It's nice to look at pretty decorations, but it's the good feeling that (ideally)accompanies the holidays that I value. Too often that gets swamped by the marketing and the "war on Christmas."

I don't call myself christian any longer for several years now, but I like the Christmas decorations and the candles and the lights. So I still decorate my place.
And commerce can go and stuff it. I don't do presents, Christmas dinners or cards for more than a decade already and that gives a lot of peace in my head.
No stress for or during Christmas, only tons of good memories, because It once was my busiest time of the year at work, as volunteer in chuch and at home.

It would probably work out better for most if everyone had to deal with a holiday bush rather than a tree. Cats would be causing a lot less grief over toppled plants, for one. And stress levels would go down when it came to worrying over where to set the bush, height-wise.

I think one of the tackiest things I’ve ever seen during the holidays are painted/bedazzled (and soon to be dead) plants.

Just saw some like those below but with added sprinkles of sparkles at my local grocery store for the second year. I don’t get it.

We all know the war on xmas is real and all, but who went rogue and pulled this stunt?

EDIT: They are actually talking about the tree here.

December 8th, 2021: A day that will live in...indignity. And built it back better? It's a tree.

Even a Fox News Christmas tree should have a better treatment than that.

In 2017 or 2018, can't recall now, my mother gave me one of those holiday plants that was supposed to be there and die. No idea why she did that, hadn't done it before. 3 or 4 years later that plant is still alive. It's a pointsettia, not whatever is in the picture. But, according to what I just looked up, pointsettias have, generally, a life expectancy of 2 to 3 months. So . . .

Here, let me enlighten you: Christmas in Japan can feel like an alternate reality, where KFC took over the world - meaning all go to KFC and get a bucket full of fun. I reveal why I usually avoid Japan during the festive season and why you shouldn't visit in late December.

Spray adhesive and then toss hand-fulls of leaves at it. Of course do this someplace with tarps or newspaper to catch the missed ones.

If I was into decorating trees, I would hang lights on one of the evergreens around the house. Cutting trees for decoration seems more like desecration.
