Disney's live action "Snow White" movie is out. Reviews are mixed so far. It is a rare movie, because both sides are having issues with it: for some progressive it is not progressive enough, while for the other side of spectrum it is already too progressive.

Anyway, the BBC review says it is undoubtedly most fascinating film of that live action bunch so far. And has a major identity crisis, because it always feels unsure about what it wants to be.

Quote: "The film's split personality problems don't go away. Half of it is set in a grimy, gloomy land where Snow White wants to foment a peasants' revolt and restore a socialist utopia, but half of it is set in a chirpy, brightly-coloured fantasy realm of benign and beautiful aristocrats. Half the time, the characters are belting out overwrought, self-empowerment anthems by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the songsmiths behind The Greatest Showman. But half the time they're trilling the jaunty 1937 ditties by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey.

Perhaps we should appreciate the value for money: the studio is in effect giving us two films for the price of one. But the producers should have picked a lane and stayed in it. As it is, Disney's Snow White keeps veering between two aesthetics and two eras, so it never picks up momentum. The story is cluttered, the tone is muddled, and the pacing is off. Again, that doesn't make the film a disaster. In some ways, the identity crisis is what makes it worth seeing. But this muddled production will be enjoyed more by politics and cinema students than by children who are hoping to be enchanted by Disney magic."

3 stars out of 5 by BBC.

2009?

I am looking forward to this. Also whoever is Sam Reid's vocal coach needs a raise. An Australian talking let alone singing in a Fading French to American accent is pretty impressive.

The first black Captain America, Sam Wilson, appeared 1998 in a comic book.

Now this made it on the big screen: Anthony Mackie is going to be the first Black Captain America in a live action Marvel movie.

I was skimming an email from IMDB about upcoming TV and ....

Takane Takamine is great at everything she does, and her magnetic personality makes her the envy of everyone. She gets good grades, excels at sports, and even manages to become student council president during her first year of high school. But Takamine has a secret-she possesses an ability called "Eternal Virgin Road,"
Huh? Must be one of those "doesn't translate" things ....

allowing her to redo past actions and achieve a different result. While this might seem like a decent skill to have, Takamine must pay a price to activate it: she has to strip off a piece of her lingerie. After getting an imperfect score on a test, Takamine begins to remove her underwear during class
Whoa, whoa, whoa ...... she WHAT?

I take it this is anime? Is it all this ................ gratuitous?

Shades of Karl Hungus. "Hello, meine new dispatcher says there eez somezing wrong mit deine cable?"

The student council president, Takane Takemine, is a beauty beyond compare, and she would normally never associate with a friendless nobody like Koushi Shirota. After seeing her undressed, however, he's forced to become her walking "closet" as she changes underwear throughout the day. But Takamine's stripping isn't merely to tease-it's the key to unleashing her time-bending powers!

As one review of the first volume in the Manga "OMG, you guys, did you know that underneath their underwear, girls are actually naked?!: The Manga."

So now it's a tv show? Well, they like turning Light Novels into Anime and then into Manga (or the other way around) in Japan.

As I hadn't even heard of the tv show, I can't say if that is gratuitous, the manga though, teases more than is gratuitous. At least in the first volume.

I don't recommend the manga.

Is this the name of your overly long titled Manga?

Sounds like an anime writer without a strange "premise" might be a rare find, too!

Anime Boss: Okay, team, we need a premise for our next title, which, by the way, will be the 1000th title we have created.

*round of applause*

Anime Writer #1: How about a teenage girl who can time travel a little ways back in the past to fix any bad decisions she made?

Boss: Oh, I like that. Gets us out of that whole time travel paradox mess. How does she time travel? Time machine?

Anime Writer #2: *slightly drunk, as usual* SHE TAKES OFF HER UNDERWEAR!

#1: First, that's your idea for every plot, and second, it makes no sense!

#2: *eyes rolling around* OMG, SCHOOLGIRL UNDERWEAR!

Boss: Jesus effing Christ on a god damn crutch. Look if we do this, will you shut up about girls taking off their underwear?

#2: Yes! Anything!

#1: Wait, what? You're actually considering ...how the hell do you expect us to ....

Boss: Make it work! Think outside the box! Grab the low-hanging fruit! Push the envelope and take it to the next level! And remember, teamwork makes the dream work!

#1: *opens desk drawer, guzzles whiskey*

Still not worth subbing Apple TV+ but I will look forward to watching the syndication in a few years time.

If you happen to have a Target Red card, sometimes they offer 3 months free for Apple+

Yeah, I don’t think Apple Originals ever go on to other streaming services or syndication.

You can always sub for a month or two when you really want to see a couple of series (once all episodes are dropped). That can make it worthwhile for you. There are a lot of sci-fi shows

I'm kinda holding out for Neuromancer and will re-up with Apple for that and catch up on the rest. Their release schedule is so slow that it's not really worth keeping a persistent subscription going.
