A Ukranian film called Donbass is getting a wide release in America, starting on April 8. Four years ago, it won Best Director at Cannes, but nobody picked it up for wide distribution, until now. It's a black comedy, about the separatist conflict in the Donbass region of Ukraine, which is a central point in the current Ukraine war. This article says it's done in 13 chapters, which makes me think it's like the book World War Z (not the movie, which had nothing to do with the book).

I hope Chris presses charges. Imagine that a hair joke (alopecia areata is not a killer disease) is what makes you attack a fellow actor but you keep your mouth closed as your wife is off with her boyfriends and everyone makes jokes about your "open" marriage.

Somehow I think this was staged as Chris is leaning towards Will just before the slap which seems to make impact on/near the lapel mic. No security around, no one escorting Will out/empty seat after the segment. I would not be surprised if this was a PR stunt that went a bit hot so the ratings might actually increase/not drop lower than last years...

I agree. It was fake, and that's a shame, because it stole the thunder from CODA, and the deaf community. I think the Oscars, as an institution, have still not found a way to recover from loosing Weinstein. They do desperate things like this, to try to remain relevant, while giving awards to films that clearly don't deserve them. Dune winning for sound and cinematography, for example, is hilarious, but over time, things like that have destroyed the Oscar's relevance, so they pull cheap stunts, because cheap stunts are easier than giving awards for real film making skill.

We have lots of great memes from Rock and Smith's performance, though!

Well, the news is saying Chris is refusing to press charges.

Also Will has issued one of those "apologies" that never says he's sorry for his actions nor is directed at the other party. Will apologized to the Academy and to his "peers" but not to Chris directly.

I don't really agree with this take...their marriage and who she fucks is up to her...I don't think slut shaming her has anything to do with her hairloss or her husband's shit reaction to a stand up comedian ribbing about a shitty movie at an awards show...

1) Isn't being offensive what Chris Rock is known for? 2) I didn't think what he said was actually offensive - especially if he didn't know about Jada's condition. He said he was looking forward to seeing her in GI Jane 2 - Demi Moore rocked the bald look, and maybe he was saying Jada is rocking it too. Now, if he'd said he was looking forward to seeing her play a female version of the Sling Blade dude - that would be an insult.

I slapt Chris Rock 26km/hour. Now I feel evil.
If you get over 30, it plays "Gettin Jiggy With it".

Nothing different for over 40 though.

While playing with what would happen if I tried to only lightly tap him, I did find out that you can slap him from the top of the head. It causes his head to drop down and fall.

Very uncomfortable to watch. Not the slap, but the shouting afterwards. Even muted, the intensity and loss of composure seemed too genuine and embarrassing to be staged.

The racist rightwing is undoubtedly already filling their echo chamber with "See!? Black on black violence! I told you!"

Am I weird for not caring about this?

So a guy slapped another guy for joking about the first guy's wife's medical condition. It's not the kind of interaction I like to see (when the person being punched isn't known to be a nazi) but...meh? Like, these two guys are socioeconomic equals and their egos clashed for a split second. Chris Rock could have complained to the police about an assault, and that would've been okay with me. He chose not to do that, and that is also okay with me. Whatev.

Looks like reddit removed this video, but it's Will Smith making fun of Arsenio Hall's bald bass player, for being bald.
