I think you have it backwards. Pretty sure Chris is not a Scientologist, but Will and Jada Smith "definitely were but aren't Scientologists any more."
Uh huh. The Church (tm) makes it really easy for celebrities to just up and leave ......
Yeah, I don't know what to make of the Scientology stuff. It seems like even the fans who follow Will Smith aren't sure if they are or not. I think they probably are, because they built a Scientology school, but I also don't care. In the end, internet culture has already done everything it can to kill Scientology, and it isn't going anywhere. We can destroy Weinstein, but not Hubbard. Will Smith would be just another log on the fire, if they are Scientologists. If they are or if they aren't, Will still did a horrible thing, and should pay for it.
I would be happy if he lost the Oscar, even though I know he won't. Why does his bald wife want a bald statue sitting around the house, anyway? All it's gonna do is remind her of her fake bald disability. The academy would be doing her a favor by taking it away!
All of this is assuming that what happened wasn't scripted, of course. That's not even remotely a conspiracy theory. It's a legit concern. We all know the Oscars is one of the most scripted things in the universe, maybe second only to Broadway, or presidential debates hosted by CNN. At the ceremony, nobody acted like the slap was real, except Will Smith and Chris Rock, who performed it. If they actually punish Will Smith in a serious way, then maybe I'll accept that it wasn't a prat fall and some alligator tears. If they don't punish him, then we all know why. It's because they did scripted this fake slap as a desperate attempt to get somebody to care enough to watch the Oscars, because judging by the ratings I've seen the last few years, the Oscar isn't as bankable as it used to be. I'm like 80% certain that this whole thing is fake. It's all just another part of the swan song of American monoculture.
