According to a year-end summary, there are now more scripted shows from streaming services than network or cable sources, and a total of 495 scripted shows in total. That's far too many to watch.

I remember the old days, when there were only three networks, and the other channels carried reruns and old movies. In those days I watched Star Trek on it's original run in black and white, because color TV was for rich people. And our TV had vacuum tubes, which occasionally burned out, so you had to take all the tubes to the corner drug store and test them to find out which was broken. How times have changed.

So *my* fondness for the movie is due to an artificial nostalgia for a time I never even experienced (though I definitely know that part of Indiana), and not because it's an hilarious film that actually has some fun with the idea of nostalgia? Oh yeah sure right. Tell me more about how naive I am.

Noooo, you missed the real point of the video. The nostalgia depicted IN the movie IS fake, but that wasn't the real focus - the focus was on nostalgia FOR the movie, which is artificial nostalgia for a time when the movie was somehow "the" traditional Christmas movie that defined people's childhoods - and by "people's" I don't mean people the age of the main character of the movie, I mean people who became adults in the late 90's. The current PR hype that surrounds the movie portrays it as the one everyone watched and loved as kid and that's why it's so popular now; but the real reason anybody remembers it as being intertwined with their childhood Christmases so much isn't because it was an especially good, memorable, or funny movie compared to other Christmas movies; it's because the movie was effectively spammed on TV during the holidays because it was so cheap to license. People saw it a lot as kids because it was on TV a lot when they were kids, whether or not they actually cared for it at the time; and current commercial PR has (as it often does) manipulated the memory of its ubiquitousness into active nostalgia for it. "Hey, remember that movie you saw all the time as a kid? You know you like all that stuff you saw all the time as a kid because it happened when you were a kid and that includes seeing this movie, so let's help you relive those wonderful memories by showing you the movie again!"

I kinda find it hard to believe you legitimately believed the sentence was a complete, self-contained argument that deserved to be analyzed independently from the video it introduced; so I'm going to assume you're just upset cuz I implied something negative about this incredibly dull, lifeless, unfunny, and overplayed movie that you happen to like.

If you don't want to stand behind your own words, fine. But then don't go throwing a litany of negatives as a critical opinion just to lash out because you think it's gonna bother me. Your opinion at this point is pretty sapless.

And yes the movie is overplayed. Hardly a critique of the film, or its viewers. Bring it up with TBS.

Context should have told you that it was just a summary of the video. You can persist at treating it like some separate, self-contained argument if you want, but I don't have to play along - especially since I know that you know better.
