My sibling and I, aunts, uncles, and cousins included, beg to differ. We all called our mothers "Mother." My mother called her mother "Mother" as did her mother and her mother. Perhaps no 8-year-old not living in the 19th century, or the deep South, would call their maternal parent "mother."Sounds a bit adult. The POV seems to be mostly from the young girl's perspective, and no 8-year-old not living in the 19th century would call their maternal parent "mother."
