Ah yes, hard hitting commentary of making pee jokes. He's damn lucky to be given 10 months notice of losing his job after ten years. While it is sad to see a voice let go, his audience has been shrinking over the years and he was just a left leaning version Limbaugh. Since 2022, Colbert has hosted 176 left-leaning guests and only one Republican and the first six months of this year, the show booked 43 left-leaning political guests — and zero conservatives — leading all late-night programs in partisan tilt.As most of you are probably aware, Stephen Colbert's late show on CBS has been cancelled. Many speculate this is because CBS wants to merge with Paramount in a multi billion dollar deal. He continues to give hard hitting commentary. He has been given 10 months(when his contract expires?) which is quite a while. We shall see if he is allowed to continue.
Colbert’s left-wing ‘Late Show’ became ‘therapy’ session for liberals: study
If this is true, and based on a lot of info it does seem so, I'm surprised he lasted this long. I fear Colbert is just not that popular as he thinks he is. Proof of this was the We're With Colbert protest that was supposed to be part of a nationwide call for “integrity.” Yet only 20 people showed up outside CBS and left after a short while. That's some hardcore support! Many have questioned the decision, suggesting that it was done to appease Trump and the FCC, but everyone involved has pointed directly to the show’s bottom line from the start.
"It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount," the network said when first announcing the "Late Show" would be canceled.
Puck News' Matt Belloni reported that the late-night show "has been losing more than $40 million a year" for CBS and that it had a budget of "more than $100 million per season."
When breaking his public silence, Cheeks did not confirm the exact amount but acknowledged the "Late Show" was losing significant cash.
"At the end of the day, it just wasn’t sustainable to continue," he said.
NYC’s ‘We’re With Colbert’ rally for late-night host is a bust with just 20 protesters
I'm more upset that Colbert had 200 employees and that they are going to be out of a job than omg what is Colbert going to do?
But yes, the timing of events is suspicious.
