Today is the 45th anniversary of the TV premiere of "Space: 1999." It was produced by British legend Gerry Anderson, who before created "UFO" and Thunderbirds.

I used to have to fight my sisters for the TV to watch Space 1999.

I was 7 or 8 at the time, and I distinctly recall playing with die-cast versions of Space 1999's iconic landers with detachable cargo holds. =)

The Eagle is still one of my favorite ship designs.

WTH. I hope this is really not their take on the wolf man. Looks more like a non-puppet version of the Cryptkeeper.

Looks interesting. Not sure I need to see it at a theater, though.

One of the toys had little individual drums marked with radiation symbols which briefly caused a panic in my school when someone from the staff found a handful of them in the playground.

Oh yeh, weren't the Eagles originally for shipping nuclear waste to the storage area that exploded the moon out of orbit in the first place?

Amongst other things, but yes. I always saw them as Gerry's new Thunderbird 2. Given they just swapped out the cargo section of the Eagles with whatever they needed for a job. We just didn't see a tractor hauling numbered pods under TB2 lol.

The sequel will probably be better.

Man, one of the mods over on /r/StarTrek has a real hard on for STD. I got a comment removed like a week ago and now a 3 day ban because I said something mildly not nice about the show.

It wasn't even rude, I even said it was a decent show, but I also said it was bad Trek, which is 100% true.

Max's "The Penguin" first episode is out, starring an amazingly and utterly unrecognizable Colin Farrell.

Normally I'm not too invested in DC stuff. But I'm really looking forward to more of this show. =)

I still don't quite get why they got Colin Farrell for that role only to throw so much make up on top of him.
