His financing of Twitter used Tesla stock to guarantee the loans. This may be trying to avoid penalties as Tesla plummets.
With some of the people he may have borrowed from, I wonder if those penalties he is avoiding are more than just monetary.

Dingdingding, we have a winner.

I was just about to post this as well.

Yeah, Musk's Tesla shares are the security for the loans Musk took out for the Twitter purchase. So if Tesla fails, his lenders will go after Twitter, a company with a worth that is nowhere near $45 billion or whatever fantasy number he picked.

He's clearly trying to hand off the hot potatoes to some gullible fools before the shit hits the fan. But I doubt he'll be able to run away far enough when that happens.
U.S. tax laws give an advantage to borrowing capital, which is why he's probably doing it. The rich routinely borrow from themselves, from their investments to avoid paying taxes since loans are not income.

The average person can also borrow against their IRA? 401K? both? and home equity, and so long as they pay it back they don't take a tax hit from their capital gains. When withdrawals are taken when they are older and no longer making the kind of money they used to, taxes come in at a lower rate because of progressivity.

xAI is Musk's own company. He's not trying to pass off the bad debt to anyone else, he's still keeping all of it for himself; he's just shifting assets and liabilities around in anticipation of Tesla failing, while trying to artificially inflate their values.

He may want to stay away from windows in tall buildings.
There is an ancient financial truism: "If you owe the bank $100 and can't pay, you have a problem. If you owe the bank $100,000,000 and can't pay, the bank has a problem."

So long as Elmo seems to have even the wispiest hope of being able to pay back those loans, he is as safe as safe can be.

Where do loans from Saudi Princes fit into this analogy?

Well at least this time Deutsche Bank won't be on the hook like they were for Trump.

Looks like Elmo tanked the Republican candidate for the Supreme Court of Wisconsin. His liberal opponent has just been declared the winner by over a 10 point margin.

Republicans take note: Musk is a liability.

It's not a Musk thing, but the two Florida races went GOP, but they also apparently had a 20 point, percent, whatever it is, swing towards Dems.

So they won, but there was a huge shift underneith.

I still have no hope that we will ever have a non rigged election by Midterms. Also, I have no hope that in the long run the idiot Cult will ever "come around."

Florida 6 is rated as +14R, which is exactly how the vote went. Florida 1 is rated +18R and the Republican won by 14, so they underperformed. My takeaway is that without Trump on the ballot a lot of people are not turning out that led to his win.

Yes, he sunk millions into the race and got his nose bloodied in return.
Proportionately, throwing a few million away on a bad bet impacted him less than leaving a tip for a starbucks coffee costs normal people.

That misses the point entirely. Musk tried to BUY the election and he failed. Throwing all that money around had no effect or may have even hurt the GOP candidate. It's his ego and his reputation that got bloodied, not his wallet.
