Musk suggests support for replacing democracy with government of ‘high-status males’

Elon Musk has used his large platform on X to promote a theory that a free-thinking “Republic” could only exist under the decision-making of “high status males” – and women or “low T men” would not be welcome in it.

On Sunday, Musk re-posted a screenshot of the theory – which appears to have been conceived on 4chan in 2021– on the social media site.

Musk reposted a twit of this nonsense (in a 4chan screenshot, naturally), noting a simple: "Interesting observation."

Dunno. The Ferengi were largely redeemed by Armin Shimerman, Max Grodénchik and the late Aron Eisenberg.

They actually have a moral code and their form of "capitalism" is more of a religion with spiritual concepts - like the "Great River" Nog was was talking about in "Treachery, Faith and the Great River" (DS9, 7x06).

Musk has none of that. I don't think he has any sincerely held beliefs, he's just too self-absorbed for that. Even his vile hatred for transgender people is just a consequence of him doubting the quality of his sperm because one of his children turned out to be one.

His understanding of science fiction doesn't extend beyond "Kirk punch lizard" and appreciating ideas for technological gadgetry that he can scavenge.

If I had to map him onto any of the Star Trek races, I'd say he's a particularly malicious Pakled.

In other words, Ferengi are a parody of capitalism, but they aren't inherently manipulative narcissists and still have standards.

not a huge Treki, but that was the impression I had. They started out as a parody but writers later added some depth to them. It's a common pattern in a lot of scifi and fantasy. "evil" races start out one dimensional but then often get overly humanized. ...to the point of losing what makes them unique often enough. It's hard to write for a race in a way that is "alien" from humans but also not one dimensional.

Sooooo many old TV shows from like the 80's and 90's seem to have the hero mostly fighting libertarian capitalists. So, so many. All the ones that nerds geek the most over. Even shows that hardcore conservatives geek over - like, easily most episodes of "Walker, Texas Ranger" could be summarized as "State police raid local small business, arrest owner".

A week or two ago I was at a clinic for an appointment and in a TV out in the lobby there was an old cowboy show called Bonanza on, and in this episode a bunch of cattlemen have come to town to buy salt for their herds, but there's a shortage because the mine has been tapped out or whatever, and while they all agree amongst each other to take an equal percentage like 60% or something of what they each normally buy, the salt warehouser suddenly decides they want double the price because eCoNoMiCs. And on top of that, a very rich rancher with massive holdings whom nobody likes shows up and offers a huge sum to buy ALL of the salt just for himself. I don't know how the episode ended because I got called in by the nurse, but...like, yeah, it's pretty obvious that until very recently there was a general societal consensus that the "Austrian school" was made up of assholes who for the most part need to be punched a lot. Your classic rugged western hero was supposed to hate people like that.

Funny enough, Lower Decks has kind of done this with the Pakleds too.

Jackson was a corrupt asshole and transferred a bunch of government money to the banks of his buddies in the West. And they had to pay interest on it so they made all kinds of dodgy loans to try and do that. And then Van Buren wanted it back so they went out and foreclosed on everything. And nobody in the West trusted rich bankers ever again.

Hey! That's insulting! Speaking as a former employee and manager of a company that made one of those shows, I can say categorically that there was nothing "essentially" about it. They were 100% toy commercials. Stop calling us slackers!
