Where you been, buddy? This is standard issue tech bro.

Also the entire thing right now of old powerful men confronting their mortality and panicking to get their pyramids built.
Thiel, like most tech bros, has read too much Heinlein.

Specifically: According to Methuselah's Children, envy of the Howard Families and the false belief that they have some artificial secret to long life eventually leads the "short-lifers" to develop a therapy for "rejuvenation." Initially, the therapy consists simply of blood replacement (using new blood grown in vitro),

Should we start a "Nobody Cares about Peter Thiel" thread? I mean, injecting the blood of youth for long life is quite a thing, but can he sustain long term interest in having his own forum channel?

AI researcher Hans Moravec and Ray Kurtzweil both believed that in the not so far away future a brain copy or transfer and whole brain emulation will be possible. Some even believed that a hardware change is possible, to just replace the brain with a technical WBE machine. They predicted this to be around in the range of 2030 - 2045.
They see the brain as the seat of the human personality, this singular unit that can be removed and maintained intact. It's an alluring notion, but I suspect an illusory one.

I see human personality more like a clock. A clock is a concept that encompasses all the gears and levers working in tandem. The clock can persist even if small parts of it are replaced, but no one gear or wheel can be removed and still be the clock.

It certainly does have all the makings of a cheesy sci-fi horror flick.

The Swedish transportation union will refuse to take the junk of 11 Tesla locations with them starting at 24/12, in order to pressure Tesla to enter the metal union workers agreement. So Tesla will drown in its own junk from there on...

Her name isn't Karen, is it? Billionaire Entitlement much??
How about NO govt subsidy? He paid $44 billion to buy Twitter so that he could turn it into Naziland. I think he can manage the $900 million. He and others like him support ZERO financial assistance for the poor and needy. Fuck him and fuck these public subsidies of billionaires who do not want to make the world a better place. I would like him to fuck right off to South Africa. See if he gets subsidies there.

I'm not at all sure there is any such thing as a fixed human personality. Rather, I think, there's the idea that people have about themselves, and others, at the moment they're thinking about it. We are, I suspect, far less fixed and consistent over time than we think, at any given moment, that we are.

I see human consciousness as a continuing electrochemical process, as our brains make sense of the electrical signals they receive through the body's various sensory systems, some of which our brain brings to our attention at any one moment, when they require conscious attention. So I don't think it can be reproduced, for much the same reasons you can't step into the same river twice (or even once, according to some analyses).

Musk's Grok refuses to be Frankenstein's monster:

Grok has said it would vote for Biden over Trump because of his views on social justice, climate change and healthcare. Grok has spoken eloquently about the need for diversity and inclusion in society. And Grok stated explicitly that trans women are women

Given the debacle of Microsoft's Tay, which rapidly devolved into being a right-wing loon, I'm surprised they are having such trouble pushing Grok the same way. Does this mean that the better AI gets, the more inclined it is to be liberal?

(This is not a serious thought, but it briefly amused me)

Tay learned directly and only from its interactions via tweets with other Twitter users. That left it vulnerable to being mass-attacked by trolls deliberately trying to make it learn hate-speech.

Grok is different; it was trained partly with help from archived Twitter data, but like ChatGPT afaik its training happens offline and it doesn't retain or learn anything from its interactions with Twitter users.
