This garbage was obviously just made up by someone whose crop was ruined some year by too much rain and they were like "**** it, we're shipping it anyway."Holy crap, humans really will eat anything.
Yup, potatoes are from the nightshade family.Alas, even though I love them, I have become allergic to them and can't eat them anymore without swelling up. I have substituted sweet potatoes and yuca but it's just not the same.![]()
There are so many foods out there that leave me wondering how we discovered they were edible (and, in some cases, even tasty). This definitely ranks up there with them. This garbage was obviously just made up by someone whose crop was ruined some year by too much rain and they were like "**** it, we're shipping it anyway."
Seems like it has its origins way way back with the aztecs. "huitlacoche" seems to be the mexican term for it, so I presume that, as usual with most weird foods, it was a matter of "We can't afford to waste a single thing" leading from "Let's see if we can actually eat this still" to either "nope he's dead" or "Yes we can, and this is actually good!".This garbage was obviously just made up by someone whose crop was ruined some year by too much rain and they were like "**** it, we're shipping it anyway."
How about chicken? A long time ago I got 24 of these cans and walked around downtown Portland. I told people they could have the can and a can opener if I could take their picture holding the can. I never did try any of it. My boss did. He said it wasn't bad. They are no longer available. As far as "ew fungus," I see it as being similar to the shelf mushrooms what grow on trees and would be willing to have a go.
Not out of a can, though >_<
Is that a job? You got paid to do that?A long time ago I got 24 of these cans and walked around downtown Portland. I told people they could have the can and a can opener if I could take their picture holding the can.
