I don't feel like they can count on Sid to contribute much to the Cat Translator Kickstarter.

Dogs are more open books in their communication.

If they scratch or push around their water bowl they want something to drink.
If they do that with their food bowl they want something to eat.
If they gonna sit at the back door they want to go into the garden.
If they gonna sit next to their leash they fancy a longer walk.
If they sit right beside you, they want a cuddle.
If they immediately sit down in the hallway while you open the door for a walk and it rains, they mean: "Fuck that boss".
If they run to the window and start barking, they want to scare the hell out of the neighbors cat.

Who needs an AI app for that?

I may have a new useless thing for Ai.

Ask it to write code, but do it in extremely inefficient ways.

EDIT: My inefficient Hello World is too powerful for the forum which won't let me add more than 10,000 characters.

Well, yes. But then, there's my smaller cat, who regularly wanders through the kitchen grousing rather pitifully about ...something. It isn't food, it isn't water, it very definitely isn't cuddles. For all I can tell, he could be complaining about the lack of emphasis on the Brontë sisters in modern schools. Or maybe he just has to poop. 🤷‍♀️

Other times she was nice though. If I was laying on the couch she would sometimes hop up and cuddle. It was so confusing.
We had a cat who was very much my cat, tolerated Mrs Quandry, hated the world. Cleopatra would climb on guests' laps and then not let them touch her. I had to frequently rescue Mrs Quandry's sister from being held hostage.

Meow meow meow, meeeyow = Fuck off with your AI.
Not my area of expertise, but my understanding is that cat's don't have a "language" in the sense that vocalizations are passed from cat to cat. Cats are, in the wild, fairly solitary and have little need for communication that does not involve claws. But when a cat domesticates people, they pick up vocalizations largely from interacting with their humans. Your cat and my cat may signal the same thing in very different ways.

This article has an interesting take on it:

It seems our cats' ancestors -- African wildcats -- are more social than the European wildcats originally thought to be their forebears. My two, who are brothers, are certainly sociable with each other and me, but woe betide the interloper cat who invades "their" yard.

As for language, I find it difficult to believe that my guys' vocalizations, which are almost exclusively little trills and chirps with only the very occasional and very diffident little meow, are the same language as some particularly vocal Siamese's caterwauling. Those two "languages" sound far more different than, say, English and Cantonese.

Cats pretty quickly forget that they say they're going to claw your eyes out the next time you fall asleep. They're also blatantly rude about hooman appearance, especially the hair, head and body. I'm not convinced that people are ready to hear such comments on a daily basis from their beloved pets.

edit: spelling

Cats seem to have different dialect groups. Our current cat uses a dialect similar to a cat we had in the 80's, but our previous cat vocalized differently.

I always wonder if it's like a foreign language. Most of our cats just meow. One chirps. So the others understand the chirps or do they just think it's weird.

Whenever I chirp at a cat it seems to think it's weird. But then maybe my chirping comes off as badly accented.

It sounds like SoundCloud has begun to dip its toes into the Evil Corporation stage of the business life cycle.

The people fight back! But now what will AI do in response? I wonder...

An obvious career that's on the chopping block thanks to AI.

$249.99 a month for an AI subscription? I guess I'm not a filmmaker - or a creative professional - so no thanks, Google.

(I am a developer, but Jeez Louise, this is way, way more than all the dev tools I currently have subscriptions for, combined!)
