Seriously though, who had a cat or dog for longer than like two months and didn't know by then what they're trying to communicate? There's no mystery when your dog barks literally every time someone is walking by, or when your cat is literally standing and pacing right in front of the door or their food bowl while they're meowing. They use their entire body to communicate, and it feels like you'd have to be impressively dense not to get the gist.

When I was really little, we had this cat who could be really sweet but was usually ornery, and even when I was still barely able to talk I already knew that when her tail started twitching in just such a way, it was time to leave her alone for little while. I didn't need an AI translator or the freaking Cat Whisperer to reveal this to me; I found out all by myself that when her tail started doing that, if I didn't f'k off with all possible speed I would get a striped tattoo on my face. Easy!

She was definitely my dad's cat. Whenever he was fussing at me for something badly enough to send me to my room, there were a couple of spots she liked to pre-stage at so that she could swat at me as I ran past on my way to the stairs. Not even exaggerating, she would hiss and everything, for no other reason than she knew I was in trouble.

Other times she was nice though. If I was laying on the couch she would sometimes hop up and cuddle. It was so confusing.
