Someone should write an article about that. It must have been much different in the '40s before TV or even more in the 1910's or earlier before radio how people decided who they want to be president.
It could go next to the one explaining 'undecided voters' when it gets to the last day or so. Ok if the two candidates are more or less equal (or each has qualities you like) but really? In 2016 how was anyone on the fence between donnie and hillary? Has there even BEEN a presidential matchup where you had two candidates so un-alike?

People respond strongly to tone far more than is general recognized. Tone directly touches the emotions ... I don't think there's any getting around this, and my personal solution is to consider "performance" to be a critical job qualification for president. It's not a "nice to have", it's a "must have" in terms of winning over the electorate.
I have waited years for Democrats to say things like this. The R's win because they bring in salesmen who can sell anything to any one, while we bring in college professors who can't sell a glass of water in a desert.

Thank you.

Word salad.

Well, getting picky, I could see how actual witches might take offense at the term "witch hunt". It basically expresses: "the hunt is bogus, because witches obviously don't exist".

Of course him saying Lefty witches are offended is just as much of a deflection tactic as calling a legit investigation into pretty damned obvious crimes a "witch hunt".

It has been my experience that salesmen who can 'sell anything to anyone' are universally full of shit and the last people I want running a country. It's not that democrat candidates aren't your stereotypical salesmen, its that they usually aren't full of shit.

Trump has no filters and speaks informally, as if he's having a conversation with his audience rather than reciting a scripted speech. If you ignore the content of what he says, he sounds honest and guileless. It is a marked contrast with the highly scripted speeches that so many politicians deliver. Even if every word they utter is true, they sound false.

One of the reasons that the "Crooked Hillary" meme resonated with so many people is that Clinton is not the best speaker; her tone is quite stiff. For people who didn't like her anyway, it's easy to interpret that delivery as false and insincere. For people who DO like her, we simply recognize that's not her strong suit and take the words at face value.

People respond strongly to tone far more than is general recognized. Tone directly touches the emotions, whereas content has to route through the brain and those messages arrive later (if at all, for some people). I don't think there's any getting around this, and my personal solution is to consider "performance" to be a critical job qualification for president. It's not a "nice to have", it's a "must have" in terms of winning over the electorate.
If all I had to go on were Trump's body language and facial expressions I'm sure I'd be turned off. Likewise his tone of voice and delivery are almost as offensive to me as the words. But I agree that he sounds like "one of us" or like a reliable dad to some people.

Trump sounds and moves like a drunken old bloviating uncle that, fortunately, I never had. When he was younger, he was the smarmy egotistical spoiled wastrel scion of the rich that he, in fact, is. Operating on a false notion that he is smarter than everyone else, he wasted his father's wealth and has resorted to outright crime to support himself. He has never understood that being able to lie convincingly is not the same thing as intelligence. His body talk and his speech have repelled me for four decades. His presidency is, in every way, disgusting.

Maybe we can build a Berlin Wall theme park for him and let him be a machine gunner in one of the towers. He really has a thing for walls ...

Would that work?
