I'm so fucking pissed at CBS News. On the morning show they played a clip from Margaret Brennan's "Face the Nation" Trump interview that included several statements about the Democrats:

1) On the possibility of impeachment: "The only way they can win, because they can't win the election, is to bring out the artificial way of impeachment."​

2) On abortion: "They're saying late-term, they're not even talking about late-term, they're talking about the baby is BORN and they can kill this child, this innocent child"​

​

3) On taxes: "They want to take our wealth and give it away. They want to tax people not 70%, it's 100%, because what they want to do, you'd have to quadruple taxes."​

All of these are gross misrepresentations. Impeachment is not "artificial", and certainly not less legitimate than a president that lost the popular vote. Democrats are not trying to legalize infanticide. Nobody is talking about 100% tax, and the 70% is only for the mega-wealthy.

After the clip they brought in Margaret Brennan to comment, but they only talked about things he said about Iraq/Iran. None of them said or did anything to correct or clarify his statements about the Democrats. No comment or attempt at fact-checking whatsoever. Brennan didn't challenge him on them during the interview, at least not in the clip.

So they showed Trump making outrageously slanderous statements about the opposing party, statements that were straight-up Fox News propaganda, and CBS News LET THOSE STATEMENTS STAND WITHOUT QUESTION OR COMMENT.

Fuck them.

Nobody is talking about 100% tax, and the 70% is only for the mega-wealthy.

It is also only for the bracket. If the bracket for 70% started at, oh, 10 million and you made $10,000,001 only $1 would be taxed at the 70% level. If that, the people at that level constantly move their money around to different tax shelters so would be able to avoid that bracket if at all possible.

I double checked and AOC's 70% number is indeed only income tax, but Elizabeth Warren has proposed an actual wealth tax (2-3% year over a very high threshhold). I guess estate taxes would count as a wealth tax too.

But I'm fine with wealth redistribution when we are talking about so many people in need of healthcare and other basic necessities while a few people collect mega-yachts and multi-million-dollar estates and buy GOLD FUCKING TOILETS.

The whole thing started when Trump accused Russia of not a taking chill pill and violating the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty with, like total ‘impunity’. Who thought Trump could get anymore Ronald Reagan after that totally bitchin irresponsible income tax cut, but he found a way!

This is just the latest of some real throwback style moves by President Trump including denying gay people rights, extending the draconian war on drugs, and meddling in the internal affairs of a South American nation purely because he heard the word socialism. All this and the Rams back in Los Angeles, Gnarly!

Federal prosecutors in New York on Monday delivered a sweeping request for documents related to donations and spending by President Trump’s inaugural committee, a sign of a deepening criminal investigation.

A wide-ranging subpoena served on the inaugural committee Monday seeks an array of documents, including all information related to inaugural donors, vendors, contractors, bank accounts of the inaugural committee and any information related to foreign contributors to the committee, according to a copy reviewed by The Washington Post.

Only U.S. citizens and legal residents can legally donate to a committee established to finance presidential inaugural festivities.

I wasn't going to watch, but then I heard he's got some item to mention about 'zero HIV transmission by 2030' and honestly can't see how he won't find some way to turn that into something horribly chilling and divisive.

If I make it through more than 5 minutes of his speech, I'll be deeply surprised.

I DVR'd it, as I had to leave for class right around when it was scheduled to start. I just turned it on now. We'll see if I manage to avoid throwing something at the TV. Maybe I should find an old CRT model to watch Trump's speeches on, as they survive things thrown at it much better than LCD sets.
