Is it just me or has SL's performance dropped significantly?

SL performance deteriorated for me some time ago. In recent years avatars have always taken ages to rez in busy places but now the surroundings are taking longer to rez too. Changing the graphics settings makes little difference, except in the case of reducing draw distance. I have a good PC and fast internet connection.

Editing appearance usually takes a long time because you have to wait for all the pairs of images of distorted parts of your body to load before you can change a slider. Occasionally they load instantly, but that's rare. Is there a way of disabling those images on the LL standard viewer, I wonder?

Maybe the Lab switched from hamsters to slow cookers as their engine for SL.

Yeah mine runs like crap. It "feels" slower these last few weeks but I have no stats to go by. My ol PC is pretty good at rendering textures, but bad at games and SL. Often Im down to 4-12 fps, and I run SL on low graphics, bringing it up for photos. These last few weeks textures take a while to pop in, and today was especially bad.

I don't think this is an SL problem, I think its some sort of underlying internet problem.

And I don't mean people's home internet.

It feels like a lot of things lately online have weird periods of "running like ass". Streaming services that randomly decide to be potato quality. Almost every gif host seems to randomly not be able to load well even though say, a whole 4k Youtube video plays fine. Some games, like Fortnite get weird lag spikes constantly.

Just some examples, they also come and go.

Its more noticible with SL, since it has to download everything, but sometimes I just wonder if there is some sort of underlying issue somewhere on the web causing all these underlying issues or if its just companies not keeping up with demmand due to costs.

So recently SL got so bad I wanted to scream - grey textures everywhere. On a whim, I tried the regular SL viewer (the login screen had a picture of me from 2020 lol), and everything loaded fine. However, I can't stand the regular viewer. I reinstalled Firestorm and it fixed most of my issues. SL is still crappy, but less so.

are your caches using the same folder for both viewers? back in the day if i was having issues i'd wipe the cache log onto normal viewer.. let it load then return to firestorm and i was good for another six months...
