Got my voting materials all ready and I'll be off to the polls this morning.

The only result that will make me happy is dems getting a super majority in both the house and Senate. And I'm not even even remotely optimistic about their chances at snagging a slight majority in either.

Voted with my mom and my daughter. It was pouring rain, but the worst of that seems to have headed out, so I'm hoping people don't let weather keep them away.

Leaving in 15 minutes to meet the first first-time-voter friend, then right after I'm driving to the complete other end of the county to meet my 2nd first-time-voter friend (actually my bff of 30 years). After dinner at her house, it's home to chill until results start coming in. There's a watch party for the Jess King campaign volunteers in Lancaster from 8-late, but I'm up-in-the-air about going as I have work tomorrow.

But now it's just wait and see.

I'm now a cautiously hopeful wreck.

Yup that's true but, the way I see it, this election isn't supposed to be satisfying, it's supposed to be the first step on a road. My biggest fear isn't Dems failing to retake at least the House; my biggest fear is voters losing hope and the will to try again in two years if that happens.

My fear is similar, I fear that if we succeed this cycle the new voters who made it happen will brush their hands "Well that's all done" and go back to not voting leading us right back into the same mess.

Hmmm....maybe I didn't say it right. I meant my fear is that if Dems FAIL to take the House today, voters will get very discouraged about the possibility of doing any better in two years and the Resistance will lose steam. I actually think Dems retaking the House today would be a HUGE morale boost. It's possible that they might get lazy again, but I'm more concerned about mass disenfranchisement in the face of a loss.

They work funny in suburbia too. My mailing address is for the main road my property fronts, but the driveway and mailbox are around the corner on the new street that goes into a new subdivision. This has generated confusion for the USPS and package deliverers. To further confuse things, the subdivision was built on land that belonged to the farm that my home was originally the owner of. So Google Maps pointed to the center of the original property and not my house, until I pestered them to correct it. A few map-based apps *still* show the wrong location.

Jeff Sessions forced out as attorney general

Matthew G. Whitaker, Sessions' chief of staff, will now become acting attorney general, and he will also oversee the Russia investigation that the president often refers to as a "witch hunt." Before Whitaker joined to the Justice Department, he wrote an opinion piece for CNN in August 2017 criticizing the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Whitaker argued that Mueller should not be able to investigate the Trump family's finances in the course of his probe. "It does not take a lawyer or even a former federal prosecutor like myself to conclude that investigating Donald Trump's finances or his family's finances falls completely outside of the realm of his 2016 campaign and allegations that the campaign coordinated with the Russian government or anyone else. That goes beyond the scope of the appointment of the special counsel," Whitaker wrote.

"Any investigation into President Trump's finances or the finances of his family would require Mueller to return to Rod Rosenstein for additional authority under Mueller's appointment as special counsel," Whitaker also wrote in the CNN piece in 2017.

If it helps, this is not the disaster that it would've been had Dems not won the House last night. If Whitaker wants to put the brakes on Mueller looking into Trump's finances, the Dem House can now subpoena everything that has been discovered so far and continue that line of investigation themselves. And, they can make all of the findings public information.

After last night's election results, maybe it's time to talk strategy. The miracle scenario of Dems winning both houses sadly did not come to pass, which means impeachment is pointless and off the table. Trump WILL serve at least the remainder of his first term no matter what happens.

So what's the best way forward?

I personally feel that it would be best to delay any indictments of Trump family members until after Trump leaves office, so Dumb@ss can't pardon them on the way out the door.

New York State is already looking into Trump's finances, because it appears his family used numerous illegal moves to avoid taxes. Those won't go away just because of a change of leadership in the Justice Department.

I disagree. If they are indicted, and Trump pardons his own family, it would energize his opponents to unimaginable levels. That increases the chances he will lose in 2020. Meanwhile, as I stated in my other comment, New York State is looking into the whole Trump family's finances, as they appear to have fraudulently avoided most of the taxes due. The state may be owed hundreds of millions, and Donald can't pardon state crimes.

Oh yeah and the New York state senate flipped blue last night, so the entire state is Dem right now. Heh.
