You guys have a lot more experience with internal attacks, starting with 1066 and up through the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Heck, you guys celebrate an attempt to blow up Parliament in 1605.
That got me thinking about our various civil wars and insurrections over the centuries, including Monmouth's Rebellion and its aftermath in the West Country, and that made me start to reimagine Lorna Doone set in the Everglades somewhere, with the outlaw Doones played, of course, by the Trumps.

So that would presumably make Trump old Sir Ensor Doone, and Donald Jr is the villainous Carver, and Ivanka is Lorna ... erm.... so that means Jarrod must be John Ridd... oh.

In my remake they'll all drown in the quicksand. If the alligators don't get them.

Since Carter issued a blanket pardon to all Vietnam War draft dodgers I am sure Trump can issue a likewise pardon. I only hope Pence gets wind of it and is vindictive enough to invoke Article 25 to make sure his would be killers get some measure of justice.
Carter issued a blanket pardon for specific offenses. He did not give those who had committed crimes other than fleeing to Canada a pardon for any other unrelated crimes. He pardoned a group of people, who had to come back and admit to the crime (the FBI knew who most of them were anyway) in order to receive a pardon. It wasn't "Ollie Ollie In Free!"

A person receiving a pardon must generally admit to the crime for which they are being pardoned. No court ever tested Nixon's so-called blanket pardon, so we still do not know if that was constitutional. Almost all constitutional scholars and lawyers say that a "self-pardon" would not be within the meaning of the term "pardon" when the constitution was written and that giving the executive the power to pardon himself would be ridiculous when they had just had a war to get rid of an unchecked autocratic king. I very much agree with this. If Trump pardons himself, count on us testing that all the way to SCOTUS.

Also: Is this a coup? Home of the Coup-o-meter

Created by Dissent & Company, "designers and organizers who create tools and actions to support organizations working for a more just and democratic world." "Is This A Coup?" provides information about what a coup is and how to fight them. There's also links to sites on how to organize against coups. Good food for thought.

It's only a coup if it's from the coup de ta region of France. Otherwise, it's just sparkling insurrection.

Yes, they will over-react and have a massive show of force. The Mayor of Washington D.C. asked and received an extension of the National Special Security Event for the inauguration. That brings in the Secret Service, FBI, and Homeland Security to oversee things. I expect the Capitol Police will be in riot gear this time, since the previous leaders were fired. They answer to the House and Senate, not the president, and the legislators are damn pissed.
They damn well better provide a show of force! For the amount of funding we give them, it's unacceptable for them to allow the capitol to be attacked like this. We need to pull every last military resource out of every theater, all over the world, bring them back, and reorganize them, into a force that is useful to the American public.

I think we should start the reorganization with the department of homeland security. That bush-era agency needs to be dismantled and recreated, as it was before Bush. While we reorganize, they need to lose all funding until they can prove that they are in capable of actually winning wars, while also defending the capitol. Two decades of getting our asses handed to us in Afghanistan was bad enough, but now this? The Pentagon is full of clowns. They should not receive one more red cent until they can demonstrate that they are fit for purpose.

On Thursday, he's giving Bill Bellicheck the medal of freedom... because, you know, we need one more reason to hate the Patriots (if you aren't American, Bellicheck is a football coach for the New England Patriots, and they suck)

Belichick refusing something from Trump? Ye-ouch.
