Consider how close the House is with record turnout in 2020. Add a new crop of restrictive voting laws and a round of redrawn House districts.
Midterm elections are usually always mediocre or worse for the party in power. My only hope this time is that the events of 1/6 and subsequent outrageous insanity from the Party of Louie Gohmert/Matt Gaetz will give the D's some impetus.

But, that could just be me, the optimistic pessimist. Things could also turn to absolute shit and I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

I don’t see why there would be a particularly significant chance for them to retake the House.
Since I live in Georgia, and already knew where to look up the state COVID statistics, I compared deaths in the Atlanta metro counties vs the rest of the state. As of now, 0.1% of the Atlanta folks have died from COVID, while 0.3% of the rest of the state has. That division also is pretty close to how the state divides in elections. Atlanta also has a higher vaccination rate than the rest of the state. So the Delta variant will be hitting the rest harder.

If we project this behavior across the country, this means the R's will be "owning the libs" by dying more. This makes it less likely they can win close races, in addition to all the other reasons (demographic shifts, unlikable policies, etc.). They will still win the hardcore conservative areas, but lose more of the competitive seats.

Until the next super variety of virus comes out which obliterates all the non vaccinated qidiots in two weeks.

The only thing is, when it actually does affect the Trump supporters, more will start going for the vaccine. The right is very flexible about shifting gears when it needs to, because the real cause here isn't vaccine rejection so much as power. They are all about using false flags, scapegoats, whatever ... and can switch on a dime and have their base follow. As long as they can rile them up they respond, and suddenly COVID becomes a Chinese/liberal plot to kill God-fearing Republicans. If their rabid base was good at thinking things through they wouldn't be kneejerk Republicans.

The problem is, as someone pointed out, the GOP has broken their base. And now there is a very real chance that even their new laws won't help them win, they are trying with not that much success, to get them to do just that.

It will be harder for everyone to vote, regardless of party. So we're going to see who is most motivated to vote. The GOP seems to believe it will be their people, but I wonder about that. Dems have more experience fighting for their rights, whereas this will be a new experience for Republican voters. I wonder just how hardy they are....

Lincoln Project Ready For Rematch With 'Loser' Trump

"There is never a day where we're like, we should take it easy on Trump today," Rick Wilson is quoted.

"Are you sure you want to do this again, Donald?" a female narrator taunts.

"If you think we hit you hard the first time, remember, we're still here. And the only loser is you."

Based on the people in my local area that are on the Nextdoor website, we're ready to fight come the next election. We organized in 2020, and haven't forgotten how. Now that people are used to city council meetings and such on Zoom, we don't even have to leave home to organize.
