Fuck I don't remember
The reports of COVID-19 being found after 17 days on the cruise ships is misleading. They found traces of the virus, but not the LIVE parts that are contagious. The same 24-48 hours on most surfaces is still valid.
I appreciate the clarification, but please remember that general guidelines are fluid right now and subject to strain and temperature. I’m sorry if it feels like I’m being nit-picky, but for immunocompromised people like me, an abundance of caution is our best bet.

I’ve been unable to find the original source I encountered for the 7-9 day figure, but I did find an article that appears to cite the reference study here:

So he fears that Canadians are going to try to cross into the country that has 32x the number of cases that Canada does for what; its fantastic and not-at-all overburdened healthcare system?
Nearly 20,000 people crossed into Canada from the US in 2018, according to official government statistics. US Border Patrol statistics show they apprehended 4,316 people crossing from Canada to the United States in 2018.

The Trump administration policy stems from fears any irregular crossers may be carrying COVID-19.

As of March 25, there are currently more than 63,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States. At the same time in Canada, there are 1,959.

Oh joy...

Fauci told reporters during a White House briefing that more cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus have begun to appear in the Southern Hemisphere, which is transitioning into colder seasons.

If there is an outbreak in the Southern Hemisphere, Fauci said "it will be inevitable" that the disease will make a comeback even if it is temporarily stopped.

New studies show that warm, humid weather might slow the virus — which could mean the pandemic will ease in the coming summer months in North America and Europe.

But Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a prominent member of the White House's coronavirus task force, said America needs to be ready in case it comes back in the fall.

😲

The number of deaths recorded at the Queens facility between Tuesday and Wednesday was “consistent with the amount of ICU patients being treated there,” a spokesman for the city public hospital systems said in a statement.

“Elmhurst is at the center of this crisis,” said Christopher Miller. “It’s the number one priority of our public hospital system right now.”

I will see if I can find it, but I’m pretty sure it was one of the MedCram updates. I know the paper all the news outlets quote from said three days on plastic, but one of the updates I watched about a week ago (I think?) noted that a group of researchers had found one of the strains survived longer (up to 6 days) on plastic and stainless steel. I’m not sure if that’s outdated. But when passing on info, I err on the side of caution.

ETA: And just in case, it’s worth noting that surface traces were found on cruise ships up to 17 days after passengers had disembarked.
Viral RNA is not necessarily the same thing as viable virus particles. The RNA is the genetic material necessary for it to replicate, but the spikes on the outside (which give it the corona name) are what gets it into the cell. Yes, caution is advised, but we need more info to be sure. I guess it's alcohol wipe for the plastic before I put it away tomorrow, and wear gloves.

This is potentially important information for anyone on an ACE inhibitor, like me. Our risk of contracting the virus is higher and the risk of dying also, because the way that the drug works opens up the receptors which covid-19 attaches to. It's early, hardly anyone is publicising this info as the information about the number of patients in Italy who were on the drug have only recently been released, but apparently 52% of the people who died in Italy were on ACE inhibitors.

If this is right, according to Louisiana State University it may explain why most children and teenagers are not affected as they have fewer of these receptors in their lungs.

At the moment this is something which has not been confirmed, and certainly I have seen nothing from any of the official channels suggesting that patients on ACE inhibitors should change their medication, but Dr Malcolm Kendrick says that by the time the official channels begin to suggest it, it will already be too late for some people. I plan on trying to talk to my doctor tomorrow morning to see if I can change onto a different drug.

Except for one.

The governor of Mississippi has issued an executive order overriding and canceling individual cities and municipalities' self-declared restrictions. The executive order includes a blanket suggested (and non-enforced) "social distancing" and crowd-size restriction, but then goes on to declare most businesses in the state "essential" and exempt from the restriction, including offices and factories of every kind.
Mississippi has 485 cases with 5 dead at the moment. Check back in a week.

seems overall everyone is reaching their mental limit... each county and city are trying to do their own things while the state refuses.

Georgia has a similar situation. We have a Republican't governor (Nathan Deal), who's been dithering about statewide lockdown. Atlanta has the world's busiest single airport (Hartsfield-Jackson), so not surprisingly we have the densest cluster of cases. The City of Atlanta, and Fulton County, of which it is a part, have a stay-at-home order, and varying restrictions otherwise. The dark spot is Fulton County:

We might have to adapt...

So Evangelicals are immune to reason... but are they immune to the bible?

Remember the story of the Israelites dancing around the golden calf in the desert? That the US-Evangelicals right now - worshipping Mammon in the times of peril...

Don't you mean Kemp? [Not that I imagine Deal left things in a state resembling prepared either.
