To quote my spouse, 'I've always wanted an island'. Because of where we are, its not that unlikely.
I lived in a town where the nicer homes in the area were all set on little hills. I guessed they were planning for the future with their little, presently dry archipelago.

At least 1,136 people have died since the monsoon season began in June, according to officials.
The summer rain is the heaviest recorded in a decade and is blamed by the government on climate change.
"Literally, one-third of Pakistan is underwater right now, which has exceeded every boundary, every norm we've seen in the past," Ms Rehman told AFP news agency.
"We've never seen anything like this," the minister added.

In this case, its just that I'm on one of the highest spots, in one of the highest areas of Florida.... but since its supposed to get unliveable here from heat, we probably won't get to enjoy it. :D

And I always thought fancy houses on hills were to show off how wealthy they are?

Texas, fuck yeah! Because there isn't still enough CO2 in the atmosphere yet...

Texas is banning 10 large banks and 348 investment funds for allegedly boycotting fossil fuel-based energy companies critical to the state's economy, a move critics said could cost taxpayers in the Lone Star State hundreds of millions annually in higher interest costs.

The state's blacklist released Aug. 24 follows West Virginia's decision in July to ban five banks for the same reason. Such actions come as some Republican-led states are cracking down on corporate social and environmental policies the states perceive to be politically driven.

These so-called conservatives are so busy getting outraged over everything that is or has to be different because there are 8+ billion of us spewing CO2 and thereby destroying our relatively benign climate that they will literally fight to continue the destruction because OMG CHANGE!

Washington Post:
Rising seas could swallow millions of U.S. acres within decades
New research finds an estimated 25,000 properties in Louisiana could slip below tidal boundary lines by 2050. Florida, Texas and North Carolina also face profound economic risks.
Researchers at Climate Central took scientific data on projected sea level rise, as well as information about state tidal boundaries, and combined that with records on more than 50 million individual properties across hundreds of U.S. counties to identify parcels most likely at risk.

Their conclusion: Nearly 650,000 individual, privately owned parcels, across as many as 4.4 million acres of land, are projected to fall below changing tidal boundaries by 2050. The land affected could swell to 9.1 million acres by 2100.

Scientists just issued a shockingly bleak ‘warning to humanity’ (msn.com)

Trees play an important role in the various ecosystems that cover our planet. Last year, a team of researchers released a paper titled State of the World’s Trees, which looked at how the loss of some tree species has affected entire ecosystems. Now, that same team of researchers has issued a warning as the ongoing issue with Earth’s trees has become even direr.

The research is backed by 45 additional scientists from over 20 different countries and outlines the many impacts that losing any of these tree species could have on the world. It isn’t just the local ecosystems that would be affected by these losses, either. The researchers say these losses will affect our livelihoods, economies, and food.

Scientists say that half of the world’s plants and animals rely on trees for their habitats. Yet, humanity continues to destroy these important ecosystems in the name of progress. It’s a sad expanding problem that has plagued Earth’s trees for centuries. As it continues, though, the effects of this expansion are showing more and more.
