NORAD, which secures the country's airspace, has a traditional gimmick they do every Christmas Eve night where they "track Santa Claus" across the world, both on a website and children can also call a phone number and get a location update. A lucky handful of randomly-selected callers are patched through to the President or the First Lady who can chat with them and give them personalized holiday wishes. Cute, right? So naturally Trump would find a way to #%@$ it up:

Children who make those calls aren't usually on the fence about their belief in Santa. But when a 7-year-old named Collman called on Monday night, Trump pushed the child's credulity to the limit.

New York City's high society is notoriously liberal. It's acceptable to be rich and conservative if you aren't obnoxious and contribute to the right charities. Trump was never accepted because he *was* obnoxious. Previously Jared & Ivanka were quiet enough and behaved, so they could circulate in the parties and events. Now they are definitely on the shit list. So they have to retreat to Bedminster, which is far enough west in NJ to be in conservative territory.
