OK, so. As GB noted, the "beta" for the Truth site has already been hacked (well, less a hack and more a prank account).

"A pig defecating on its own scrotum" is really how we should be describing Trump going forward.

Briefly, SPACs [special purpose acquisition company] are shell companies that get listed on exchanges like the Nasdaq and exist for the sole purpose of eventually merging with companies that want to go public. Someone, often from the finance world, starts the company and gets a few other people to throw money in the pot in exchange for shares of the shell — typically sold at $10 a pop. They set themselves a deadline (usually around two years) by which they aim to find a company to merge with and tell the market which industry they’re targeting — though they can really merge with any willing business. Here’s a far more detailed explainer if you’re curious.
It was registered in Delaware in February but somehow went unnoticed until Wednesday night. Anyway, Trump has very big ambitions for TMTG, according to the truly ludicrous 22-page investor presentation that was published on its website.

(Seriously, the presentation must be seen to be believed.)

TMTG’s ambitions don’t end with Truth Social, Trump’s Twitter clone. Ultimately, TMTG aims to be a conglomerate with plans to — in all seriousness — operate a news network that competes with CNN, a streaming platform that competes with Disney+, and a technology services business that competes with Amazon Web Services.
Oh boy. TNN. Trump+. Whatever he'll call his Amazon clone...Trumpazon.

I guess that depends on how quickly it crashes and burns.
So he's going to be launching this digital media empire to take on Amazon, CNN, Disney, Netflix and everyone else, while running for president and winning by a landslide and then running the country, while also running his existing businesses and dealing with various inconvenient problems in the civil, and potentially criminal, courts.

And the golf.

It's good to have an active retirement.

I bet I know what this is.

Except for his demented fanbase, no one really wants Trump as president, and that includes himself -- I mean, why be president, when you've always got people bothering you with stuff, and criticising you, when you can be king emperor of Mar a Largo -- but it's difficult to see a way to disengage his death-grip on the Republican Party.

Pump enough money into Trump Digital Vanity Projects, or whatever it's called, and you can keep him occupied with his new toy, while deploying his influence over his MAGA faithful on behalf of your favoured Republican presidential candidate who isn't as mercurial, vicious and crazy as Trump.

It's a expensive shiny to distract him.

Pravda is the official newspaper of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. It had a similar status in the Soviet days. Pravda means "truth". People back then joked that "we don't read Pravda to find the truth. We read it to find what lies the government is telling us." So this is a perfect name for Trump's new project.

As the names of the main Communist newspaper and the main Soviet newspaper, Pravda and Izvestia, meant "the truth" and "the news" respectively, a popular saying was "there's no truth in Pravda and no news in Izvestia".
(I'd heard it switched round, as "No news in Pravda and no truth in Izvestia," which was said to be an old Russian proverb ("there's no news in the truth, and no truth in the news").

In a press release Wednesday night, Trump's new company, Trump Media & Technology Group, said it and DWAC "have entered into a definitive merger agreement, providing for a business combination that will result in Trump Media & Technology Group becoming a publicly listed company, subject to regulatory and stockholder approval."
Patrick Orlando, CEO of DWAC, in the press release said, "Digital World was formed to create public shareholder value and we believe that TMTG is one of the most promising business combination partners to fulfill that purpose."
Orlando is also CEO of Yunhong International, which was incorporated in the Cayman Islands in 2020 and which lists its headquarters in Wuhan, China.
Hmm.

"The details of Mr. Trump's latest partnership were vague," the Times reports. "The statement he issued was reminiscent of the kind of claims he made about his business dealings in New York as a real estate developer. It was replete with high-dollar amounts and superlatives that could not be verified."
Just the kind of thing I'm always ready to invest in. :hellokitty:

"there's no news in the truth, and no truth in the news"
Sounds like something it would say. Except his news. His news is bigly.

ETA:

Trump Media & Technology Group Goons

Reminds me of this guy and his GOONs.

[Off on tangent]
As a Brit, I have a much more positive image of the Goons, which was a classic 1950s British comedy radio show, starring Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine, often repeated over the next few decades.

I remember listening to the re-runs in the 1960s with my father on Sunday mornings. It was very influential on British comedy, and prepared the way for shows like Monty Python 20 years later.

I vaguely remembering hearing about that show when it ran on PBS (Public Broadcasting Service in OR is OPB). I didn't watch PBS back then. I mean, back then, you didn't watch PBS unless you were oooold (over 30).

I wasn't allowed to watch Sesame Street when it started airing in 1969. I turned 10 in 69 so I was a little too old to watch it anyway since it was geared towards preschool and kindergarteners when I was already in grammar school, 5th grade.
