Wasn’t Biden chosen by Obama as VP because he was a sort of moderate republican who would be able to bring in votes from those who didn’t like how, didn’t recognize themselves in, the Republican Party after the Bush years? What is it that people like about him? I’m genuinely asking.

I know not many here love him, but it seems like many think he represents a good moderate Democrat representative. What am I missing? Is he better than I give him credit for.

I admit, maybe the way he “repulses” me is purely emotional. Maybe there are good things about his past political actions I know nothing about being from outside the US.

Biden is a Rust Belt Democrat. He came out of the working class labor wing of the party that is a bit more socially conservative but held with the party through the Civil Rights movement when Southern conservative Democrats left to join the Republican Party.

The more popular Biden gets, the more people will have to start taking him seriously and the more of his atrocious record will be rubbed in his face.

He doesn't even have his charm to rely on any more, since that's being eaten away by whatever neurodegenerative illness he's struggling with.

I already voted for Bernie but I would have no problem whatsoever voting for Joe. He has baggage but not the kind I feel dooms him. As far as debating, Trump either will not bother, or will do the kind of half comatose slurred performance he does now.

In fact the way I am feeling about the world right now, if I could change my vote, I would consider it. Revolution just doesn’t sound as appealing anymore. I just want someone to catch the runaway horses pulling the wagon.

this is a person with no vision, push the Iraq War, who has been trying to cut Social Security for the last 40 years. I don't see why anybody would vote for him, from a policy standpoint. But as we have seen here, policy doesn't matter to a lot of people. And this is why our politics are as fucked up as they are. It's not just the uneducated rural people who vote against their own interest.

No, he's not a Republican, but Veritable has already filled you in on Biden's background.

I don't like Biden, he's among my least favorite of the presidential candidates. I vacillate between thinking he's too weak to go against Trump or that he's probably the best "least-objectionable" candidate that will catch all the "anyone but Trump" votes in the country, from Dems to non-Trumper-Republicans. Is the country ready for bland out of just general fatigue or will they reject bland for what it is, a nothing-burger? Hell if I know.

The candidates I thought would be good for the country didn't get anywhere, so now I'm regrouping. Last year I probably would have voted for Sanders if Warren dropped out. But month by month I've become less impressed with Bernie, not more. After his heart attack, especially, but just generally. He's not only old, he's rigid and inflexible. He sounds great from the podium in terms of what he promises, but that bears no relation to the reality of what can actually be done. There's a difference between great aspirations and fantasy promises -- both Trump and Bernie travel in that territory and I'm just not buying it. Hope yes, pie-in-the-sky no.

Like Trump, Bernie is rousing passionate support for his dream-spinning, but there's a reckoning at the end of the rainbow and it ain't pretty. Electing Bernie president is not going to transform the U.S. into a socialist paradise, especially not with his willingness to burn bridges within the Dem party. I just don't think he has the temperament to be a good president and he has the potential to be as divisive as Trump, just on another side of the divide.

My reasons for voting Biden are purely that I believe he has the best chance of a general election win - he's not my favorite either, but he's not as terrible as a few of the others - and the way Trump has tried to get foreign governments to go after him has me pissed off. But, there are some things that I do like about him:

2) As a senator he took the train to work every single day.
3) Obama picked him and very obviously was fond of him.
4) He might punch Trump during a debate.
5) He might punch Trump during a debate.

Not true. Those have been my reasons since Bennett dropped out - but I've been avoiding posting about my current choice due to the aggression against certain candidates.

I think its pretty certain that Biden will continue the Obama agenda. He was always in step with it. That means some things that people here don't like and some that they do. But, he certainly isn't going to put babies in cages, advocate harm to the environment or encourage white nationalists. Healthcare wise we would expect to see a Medicare public option. Beyond that, he has a lot larger chance of keeping the house and the senate in dem hands than his opponents.

Again, making it clear that he's not my favorite - and I think he's been severely wounded by Trump attacks already. Just looking at what can be salvaged before November, imho. If we lose the House and Senate, we might as well start calling ourselves Russia II.

7) He wins the biggest share of the black vote, and they should get who they want. Even if they are old.
