I understand the general population not knowing that yes Russia is still attacking us, but the military??? Have they heard of NATO? Or the many sources confirming our elections were attacked by Russia? Evidently their training is sorely lacking.
Who serves? (Generalization) Superpatriots and poor people with few options. Their propaganda is the opposite of lacking.

The problem is that it's not primarily a military war, or not yet. While Russia is certainly fighting, either directly or by proxy, in several different theatres of war, it's accompanying that with a massive information war all over the internet and via more traditional media, in promoting right-wing, disruptive authoritarians (particularly ones who are easily manipulated) and also extreme right, Nazi and fascist groups and movements.

Timothy Snyder, the historian, documents what's happening in plain sight -- and guns and tanks don't stop it.

The military and veteran community is overwhelmingly conservative, and most of them support Trump, and we've already got a pretty good idea how those kind of people think.

My astonishment is because according to that poll, our military evidently does not know that our enemies don’t attack with guns alone. That’s worse than the general population. I would like to see a poll on what the military thinks of Trump celebrating war criminals. Also let’s poll police on what they think of Barr’s suggestion that people who don’t show respect to them may not get their protection.*

All these people are supposed to be protecting us from our enemies, but it’s not clear they know who our enemies are.

* Barr et al gearing up for when someone tries to physically remove Trump from office if he loses the election. Law enforcers of some kind will need to decide who to obey, like the WH witnesses.

I guess we need to be clear who "our [your] military" are in this context.

I suspect, having read the news report to which you link, the problem is that, while particular sections of the US military and intelligence services are very well aware of what's going on, though powerless to do much about it, nevertheless the Russian campaign of directing public discourse in the US in particular directions via the internet, and also its campaign of promoting views thought helpful to the Kremlin's objectives (as opposed to pro-Russian views in themselves, though that's part of it) is achieving Russian objectives admirably.

However, as they watch the the views of their troops and the troops' families being swayed by Russian cyber campaigns, as part of the very successful project of manipulating public discourse in general, they are unable to do much about it while their C-i-C is someone so anxious for President Putin's approval.

Oh good, it seems a good percentage of both our military and police are stupid.

I don't have much connection to law enforcement, but I do have a frequent connection to several military bases. The wounded ones are sobering.
You should call them "stupid" to their face and then take a selfie so you can remember what an ignorant ungrateful jackass looks like. Then swap pictures with Brenda.

These soldiers aren't free citizens. Their families are burdened. It's all in our name. Until we start taking care of them properly and valuing their lives as we would our own, we don't get to judge what they think. They are certainly entitled to that much respect.

No. If they support authoritarian kleptocracies that are actively invading neighboring countries and occasionally shooting down airliners, that deserves absolutely no respect. How can we trust the worst of us to protect our freedom? And why should they get a pass on supporting violent homophobes who carry out assassinations on allied soil and subvert our elections?

I believe we do need to support our military and their families in ways that the Republicans oppose, including a living wage for enlisted service members, reforming the VA without privatizing it, and getting predatory for profits away from educational benefits so that we don’t put former service members in debt for a worthless education. But that does not extend to giving a pass to supporting murderers and tyrants.

Weighing in here as a veteran: To support and rally behind a man who is so obviously unfit for the position as Commander in Chief and is so toxic to this country and our alliances is willful stupidity.

tldr;
Hence, the strongest fissure in the Democratic Party seems to be between the neoliberal zombies, and candidates like Warren and Sanders, who don’t completely buy into the austere vision of government that Biden, Obama, Klobuchar, Harris, Buttigieg, and every Republican believe.

“Warren and Sanders are directly challenging neoliberal principles, a challenge strongly embraced by their younger supporters,” Brown added. “Sanders is the most overt about it. But both Warren and Sanders are talking about public goods, public provisioning and the value of a vastly expanded social state to challenge inequality and address the climate crisis."

I have great respect for the jobs that law enforcement of all kinds do. But the percentage who prance around with Maga hats or think Russia is an ally - - well they are stupid.
