Trump knows a runoff fight in Texas is not good for *his* chances.

Trump asks Texas Senate candidate he does not endorse to drop out of race
President Trump said the Texas Republican Senate candidate that does not get his endorsement should drop out of the race, announcing on Wednesday that he will throw his weight behind the race “soon.”

In a lengthy TruthSocial post, Trump argued that the GOP primary race in the Lone Star State “cannot, for the good of the Party, and our Country, itself, be allowed to go on any longer.”
“IT MUST STOP NOW! We have an easy to beat, Radical Left Opponent, and we have to TOTALLY FOCUS on putting him away, quickly and decisively! Both John [Cornyn] and Ken [Paxton] ran great races, but not good enough. Now, this one, must be PERFECT!” he continued.
He goes on to claim his endorsements are "virtually insurmountable!" Which we know is complete bullshit these days.

The irony is that of the two Dem candidates -- Talarico and Crockett -- Talarico really is the more progressive in terms of his stated policy positions. Because of the whole faith thang, however, people perceive him as more conservative, which is an asset in Texas. He's going to appeal to a broad swath of voters: the truly progressive voters (who are more likely to actually inform themselves about his policy positions) and Christian voters looking for permission to not vote Republican, plus increasing numbers of people who simply want to hurt Republicans as a statement of "I don't like what Trump is doing now, I didn't vote for THAT".

Thanks. Only real thing I knew about Talarico & Crockett is that I kept getting texts from his, Talarico's, group. And I live no where near Texas.

Looked him up just now. Interesting comments by him in the video. Basically about how Republicans convinced people that two issues were the most important, neither talked about by Jesus in the bible, abortions and gay marriage. Then mentions Matthew 25 where Jesus tells Christians how they will be judged/saved - feeding the hungry, healing the sick, by welcoming the stranger.

Christian Republicans seem to not like using 'their' money to feed the hungry, pay for universal medical care, or and do not appear welcoming to the stranger, or the non-USA citizen.

ETA: Oh. I just realized that was the interview that the FCC said stuff, and Colbert ended up putting the interview on Youtube and not airing it on TV.

I think this displays the surface level awareness of the voting public in general, in that Jasmine Crockett also has something of a "faith thang," her being the daughter of a pastor, and having described her upbringing in churches as a "grounding" force in her life.

They happen to be black churches, and Crockett has said their strong focus on social justice issues provide an essential element to the Democratic party’s base. Which would no doubt rub a large portion of the white, conservative electorate in Texas the wrong way.

This is how you assure your hand-picked successor is the only candidate on the ballot. Trump even immediately endorsed Alme.

Way to play the game, Senator.

A bit of a sidebar.

Florida governor candidate says Waffle House banned campaign
Florida governor candidate James Fishback on Wednesday said his campaign was banned from Waffle House restaurants across the Sunshine State.

Fishback planned to visit every Waffle House in the state to connect with voters over “hot coffee and warm waffles.”
Fishback has been criticized for alleged inappropriate behavior while on the campaign trail. Some have also referred to the GOP candidate’s remarks about fellow Florida gubernatorial hopeful Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) as racist.

He was also accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl, causing a local school district to cut ties with him, as reported by NBC News.
Waffle House has not commented on Fishback's claim, but I have to wonder what kind of an animal you must be to get banned from a Waffle House.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune let it slip that President Donald Trump doesn't understand that he doesn't have the votes to pass the SAVE Act.

While speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, Thune was asked whether he's risking being on the wrong side of the president by opposing a filibuster to pass the bill. "We don't have the votes," said Thune.
We can expect a major push on efforts outside of the SAVE act from the White House now.

I think he does understand, thats why he started pushing threat tactics about not passing anything else.
I wonder if yamtits realizes that any bill that sits unsigned on his desk for ten days automatically becomes law so long as Congress is in session.

Republicans approach the midterms with a doomed play for unity
Republicans hoped to focus their midterm campaign on the bigger tax refunds Americans are getting from last year’s party-line megabill. Instead, they’re stuck in a doomed push to try for a sequel.

Most GOP lawmakers who gathered at President Donald Trump’s resort this week for their annual policy retreat said they doubted that the party could get another huge filibuster-proof bill to his desk, even as their leaders called for one. Several Republicans made clear that a new party-line bill would struggle to even get through the House.
And some of Speaker Mike Johnson’s members called for a different message ahead of the election, one that’s more focused on the economic goals Democrats are touting.

“I’d rather see us dig in on something else that’s equally important, like housing, costs of groceries, those sorts of things, and really help drive some of these prices down,” said Rep. John Rutherford, R-Fla.
Sounds like a plan. :kittyball:

A sign of the stupid times.

A dark money group is offering influencers $1,500 for one negative social media post about progressive Illinois House of Representatives candidate Kat Abughazaleh.

MS Now reported that Democracy Unmuted, a secretive, unofficial organization that registered its website two weeks ago, offered TikTok and Instagram influencer Amanda Informed $1,500 to push anti-Abughazaleh rhetoric on social media. She declined, and made the offer known to the media.
Democracy Unmuted is made up of “individuals from the [Illinois] area who have served in the highest offices and been at top of their game in the media,” Matt Anthes, founder of the digital political advocacy firm Advocators, told MS NOW’s Brandy Zadrozny.

“The money didn’t feel right coming from someone who’s not disclosing where the money is coming from,” Amanda Informed told MS NOW. “That’s not something that I want to be involved in. I want to make sure that it’s coming from a source that is not doing nefarious things like interfering with elections.”
An ethical influencer. Who knew they existed?

I fear that doesn't mean anything if those people don't show up in the regular voting! Are there long queues in order to vote in a primary (as I've heard there are in the election)? Is there voter intimidation in a primary? Are you still registered as a voter on election day? Are there a couple of reasons (and excuses) to not participate in the election? As a remedy to some of those problems voting happens on sundays here in Germany, where quite a lot of businesses are closed and in addition we have a good deal of voting by letter which is trusted (still).

In my state at least, they just mail be a ballot every election, its so nice and so easy.

But also when I voted in person before I never really had bad lines, but I also always made a point of getting up, showet, go vote at like 630AM, then go back home tonget ready for work the rest of the day.

Ah yes, the Constitutional right to adopt a child.

You know, a home study report from a social worker is also a requirement for adoption. Should this be mandatory for voting, too? You also must provide statements on why you want to adopt, and information about your parenting "philosophy." Do we need something similar for voting now?
