NICE! I bet Minnesota will be the bluest state in the union for decades. They've witnessed GOP cruelty first hand too much.

While visiting my parents last week, I was subjected to fox news coverage for a long time. Good chance to spy on the enemy. They admitted polls show that the public doesn't approve of ICE tactics but still tried to really downplay the validity of the backlash of course.

I forgot to post about this when I first heard of Taylor Rehmet's win in Texas. Now I get to mention it by bringing up that Republican's are shitting their pants over it.

Republicans are freaking out about Hispanic voters after a Texas upset
Republicans are in full-out panic mode over their plunging support with Hispanic voters after losing a special election in a ruby-red Texas district over the weekend.

On Saturday, a Democrat posted a 14-point victory in a Fort Worth-based state senate district President Donald Trump had won by 17 points in 2024, a staggering swing that was powered by significant shifts across the district’s Hispanic areas.

It’s the clearest sign yet that the GOP’s newfound coalition that propelled Trump’s return to the White House may be short-lived. Many Republicans are warning the party needs to change course on immigration, focus on bread-and-butter economic issues and start pouring money into competitive races — or risk getting stomped in November.
Polling already showed that Republicans were rapidly losing support from Hispanic voters. But the electoral results were a confirmation of that drop.
¡Desde luego!

So Trump wants to "nationalize" the elections. The question is, can he?

Can Feds ‘Take Over’ Elections? Here’s What to Know

The article doesn't provide a straightforward yes or no answer to that question. Helpful, but not really HELPFUL. Democratic leaders are on the case. I feel safer already...

Democrats will stop Trump from trying to nationalize midterms, Jeffries says
Democrats will stop Donald Trump from trying to steal this year’s midterm elections, Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the US House of Representatives said on Sunday.

Jeffries’ comments come amid widespread concern after Trump said Republicans should “take over the voting”. The US constitution gives states the power to set election rules and says Congress can pass laws to set requirements for federal elections. The constitution gives the president no authority over how elections are run.
“What Donald Trump wants to do is try and nationalize the election – translation: steal it. And we’re not going to let it happen,” Jeffries said during an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union. He added that Democrats so far had successfully blocked Trump’s efforts to federalize the national guard and countered a nationwide push by Republicans to redraw congressional district boundaries to their advantage.
“This is going to be a free and fair election,” Jeffries said. It “is going to be conducted like every other election where states and localities have the ability to administer the laws”.
It better fucking be.

We will cease to be a federation of states if elections are nationalized. It will be the death nail for state's rights*. We will be named the Triumphant Republic Under the Militant Patriarchy.

*I'm aware that the term "state's rights" prickles and burns and eats through the skin but those precepts are what define the federation and keep us from having a dictatorial government. The balance has shifted throughout the country's history but state autonomy has always been paramount.

I have vague fear they will pull some ICE intimidation gestapo shit except that it would likely backfire and sway undecided (FYCKING HOW) voters away from them and also, I don't think they actually have the man power to do it everywhere. Especially in months. ICE shitheads are already demoralized as fuck, I can't imagine people are flocking to join them.

It reminds me so much of when the fight for democracy was happening in Hong Kong and the Chinese literally said they would have absolutely no problem with fully implementing democracy, "as soon as we know the people will make the right decisions."

Yeah. In 1933, the SA had 2 million members - more than Germany's actual army.

Trump on the other hand has "only" about 22,000 brownshirts in ICE.

The fact that America is such a heavily segregated country - with many people only caring about themselves and their group - actually also makes it harder for Nazis to excert control.

Which in the beginning of 1933 is because the treaty of Versailles was still in action, limiting the official army to 100.000 people only.

Kentuckian Andy Barr is running for Mitch McConnell's soon to be vacated seat in the U.S. Senate.

His ad, which ran on TV in Kentucky, is fucking hilarious.

I admit, it certainly got this woke liberal crying. :hellokitty:

Not even sure what reaction to hit to that.... It's great fodder for /r/persecutionfetish.

The attention surrounding James Talarico‘s Late Show with Stephen Colbert interview has been very good for the Texas Democrat’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

He raised $2.5 million in the 24 hours after the segment was shifted from CBS broadcast to YouTube, his largest single fundraising period for the campaign.
