I've found this interesting piece of history today: Switzerland had from 1945 to 1988 its own nuclear arms project.

They tried to get Uranium from the same source the Soviets got theirs - Germany. But America intervened. So they got it instead from the UK and Belgium.

They created Plutonium and other stuff needed for a bomb, but never built one.

Hacker Dressed as the Pink Ranger Takes Down White Supremacist Websites Live Onstage

Given how openly white supremacists can operate on modern social media platforms, particularly Elon Musk’s X, you wouldn’t imagine they have to operate in private much anymore. But they do—or rather, they did until a recent live takedown effort. On stage at the annual Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg, Germany, a hacker known as Martha Root deleted the servers of three websites run by white nationalists.

The takedown, performed by Root while dressed up as the Pink Ranger from the Power Rangers, came at the end of a talk on the Nazi online ecosystem that also featured journalists Eva Hoffmann and Christian Fuchs, per TechCrunch. The three sites targeted included WhiteDate, a white nationalist dating site; WhiteChild, a website for matching white sperm and egg donors; and WhiteDeal, an online labor market for white supremacists. As of Monday, the websites remain offline.

The sad part is that, while some Republicans broke ranks to advance this bill, there were still 196 House Republicans who voted to keep Americans from having affordable health care.

What was Belgium doing with plutonium? Are they making their own nuke plant fuel?

Belgium has some nuclear power plants, also had nuclear reactor research and other stuff. So this was just a byproduct of running these reactors.

Fun fact: for some time Belgium was one of the main Uranium sources for the states after the Manhattan project.

New York City children as young as 2 years old could get access to free child care under a proposal Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled Thursday.

The launch of “2-Care” will start in “high-need areas,” officials said, building on the city’s existing pre-K and 3-K programs. The expansion is one part of a multipronged plan to increase state support for child care, which the Democratic governor said is needed to control rising costs of living and keep people in the workforce.

“Families have been crying out for help,” Hochul said at the Flatbush YMCA. “If we can take this stress point off the plate of all the other struggles they have, my friends, then we are making New York state and New York City the best places in the nation to live, to raise a family, to grow a business and to prosper.”

Hochul said Thursday that the state would fully fund the first two years of the city’s 2-Care program. She also announced funding to extend pre-kindergarten programs around the state, expand pre-K and 3-K in New York City, and increase the amount of funding for the state’s existing child care subsidy program.

Give the guy his due, he did some great skewering of corporate stupidity. I imagine most of us who have worked in a corporate environment have, at some point, thought, "Am I in a damn Dilbert strip?"

Ambassador Who Called Trump ‘Village Idiot’ Resigns

Australia's United States ambassador, who once called President Donald Trump a "village idiot," has resigned from his role.

Kevin Rudd, who previously served as the country's prime minister, became the U.S. ambassador in March 2023 during President Joe Biden's administration.
