I don't even know where to put this.

A truck hauling “aggressive” monkeys thought to be carrying hepatitis C, herpes and Covid-19 has overturned in Mississippi, with at least one on the loose, according to authorities.

The truck was loaded with caged Rehsus monkeys when it crashed on Interstate 59, north of Heidelberg, on Tuesday.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the makers of Tylenol, claiming that they deceptively marketed the medication to pregnant women despite alleged links to autism.

That should be a fun lawsuit to watch.

British newspaper spoke to the wrong DeBlasio, not an ‘imposter’ (should be paywall-free)
The man at the heart of a high-stakes mix-up that rippled through global political journalism in the final days of the New York mayoral campaign was neither “falsely claiming” to be former Mayor Bill de Blasio — as the Times of London suggested — nor, as The New York Times wrote, a “de Blasio impersonator.”

He is, instead, a 59-year-old Long Island wine importer named Bill DeBlasio, who merely responded to an email from a journalist seeking his views on Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s policies.
The episode began earlier this week when a reporter for the quality British newspaper, Bevan Hurley, sent a polite email to an email address containing the full name belonging both to the wine seller and the two-term New York mayor, who spells “de” with a lowercase “d” and inserts a space between the two parts of his surname. (In DeBlasio’s view, “low-class Italians use a little d.“)

The Times reporter, Hurley, was researching “an article looking at Zohran Mamdani’s policy plans and their estimated costs,” he wrote. “I would greatly appreciate your insights on Mr Mandani’s ambitious agenda, potential obstacles, and whether the sums add up.”
There's plenty of heads overheated by all this: The former Mayor Bill de Blasio, who demanded The Times take their story down; The Times editors and writer, who deleted the article (not good journalism there either, boys - PUBLISH A CORRECTION) and blamed their error on someone impersonating the Mayor; and DeBlasio (not De Blasio) himself, who doesn't like being called a hoaxer, or having to endure a decades worth of hate mail intended for De Blasio (not DeBlasio).

Not all impostors are fake. Or rather, do some basic background checking before publishing your hit piece.

The NYT still has their article up with no correction that I can see (De Blasio Impersonator Tricks British Newspaper With Fake Criticism of Mamdani).

The gall…

I knew I did the right thing a few months ago when I cancelled my long-standing subscription to The Times and switched to the Financial Times and Reuters.

I've been finding the business news is pretty good for straight news coverage, because their customers demand it for financial reasons. Now, anything not directly related to investment decisions, on the other hand ...

A journalist friend once told me that the FT was the most reliable paper because its target readership expected hard news they could use rather than political spin. And right now there's a huge gap in the UK market for a serious centre/centre right paper, which the FT fills very well.

A showdown between Kim Kardashian and a top Trump administration official was not on my bingo card for 2025, and yet! Kardashian and U.S. Transportation Secretary and acting NASA chief Sean Duffy butted heads in a bizarre exchange over comments made by the reality star regarding the 1969 Moon landing, which she appears to think was fake.
Not surprised to discover that the woman who's celebrity exists entirely thanks to a leaked sex tape believes the Moon landings are a hoax. I'm sure she's recently stopped using Tylenol to avoid catching autism.

But having a Trump cabinet member arguing in defense of Big Science? Laugh. Riot.

Oslo, Norway's capital, has been testing 2 electrical buses for public transportation since summer this year and reviewing its cybersecurity as well.

One bus was made in China. Turns out this Chinese bus has a builtin kill switch, meaning it can be turned off remotely or even bricked. The European counterpart has no such lever.

I was recently looking at an electric car and noticed that one of the options was to disable the kill switch. I thought, yes, I would like to do that. So I clicked on that and found that you have to have proof that you are a domestic abuse victim before they will disable it. Well. Next?

At this point I'd actually expect Fox New to have created the AI videos...

Fox News admitted a major blunder Saturday after it reported on videos of Americans “complaining” about federal food assistance being disrupted amid the government shutdown, videos it originally failed to identify as being generated with artificial intelligence.

“Wow – Fox News fell for a racist AI video about [Supplemental Nutrition Food Assistance Program] recipients with ‘7 baby daddies’… then when called out changed the story to be about AI videos going viral,” wrote The Tennessee Holler, a progressive news outlet, in a social media post on X Saturday.
Fox News published its original report on Friday, titled “SNAP beneficiaries threaten to ransack stores over government shutdown,” which included several videos of supposed SNAP recipients voicing outrage at the program’s disruption. After some of the included videos were flagged as being AI-generated, however, the article’s headline was changed to “AI videos of SNAP beneficiaries complaining about cuts go viral.”

Anyone else feel very taken off guard by the clock change today? I didn't hear any chatter about it. I just woke up and realized my microwave and my oven were an hour ahead of my phone. I of course put 2 and 2 together but I remember it used to be a big topic of discussion in the office or school of "remember to switch your clocks over!!" I think we all just got too used to smart clocks that do it automatically so it's not worth talking about anymore.

...It might also be a factor that my work was VERY BUSY on Friday for unrelated reasons so nobody thought to bring it up.

I was blissfully unaware of the change until my (smart) TV told me the real time. Then, oh shit, why are half the clocks in my house NOT self-adjusting?!
