I don't know how much it dips into the gore. But it's definitely more old school with a group or community suddenly having to combat zombies, rather than a handful of humans left in a world of them. Stuff like The Walking Dead did that to death (pun IS intended!)
This seems more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie) and Zombies. But if a zombie bites a vampire, then the vampire bites a human, does the zombie melt in sunlight? I'm kidding, nobody melts in sunlight, that's such a stupid legend, I mean, moonlight is sunlight, and long expired stars still bombard Earth's atmosphere with sunlight all the damn time.

You'd be a lot of fun at a horror movie marathon.

In one of the science fictionish vampire novels, I think it was Saberhagen, vampires are powered by solar neutrinos and fall asleep and become fatally sensitive to light when the flux of solar neutrinos gets high enough to switch them into recharge mode.

Thanks for the reference. Going to look at some of his stuff. Will have to read paper because my libraries don't have any of his titles in their online collections [insert back of hand on forehead pathetic emoji].

Oh joy, a new series from Marvel is on the way.

It seems to look pretty different (do they have any superheroes in it?). It also releases on my birthday, so I might watch it...at least I can give the first few episodes a chance.

Well, they can probably milk the "making a superhero film in a world with actual superheroes" bit for some comedy. Universe 616 (standard comic continuity) Simon Williams was an actor, IIRC, got recruited by the Maggia (aka the comics version of the Mafia with the name changed so the real Mafia didn't take offense) for an experiment that gave him his "Ionic" powers. the bits they show of the 80's movie guy with the red sunglasses and the W on his chest are basically showing what one of 616's Wonder Man costumes looked like. IIRC, the powers of Wonder Man and a couple of other guys (Living Laser and Whirlwind) were later duplicated in a Maggia villain Count Neferia (no really) who essentially became a superman expy.

The sequel will probably be better.

Nathan Fillion was supposed to be Womder Man at one point. There are cut scenes from Guardians 2 with him on movie posters. But itngot delayed too long.

I kind of hope they make a cameo nod to this with a rejected audition scene. Maybe they tell him he is too old or something and he complaims he has been waiting forever (GOTG2 is almost 10 years old) just to get rejected. Heck it gets another layer on that joke given his role in The Rookie.

Disney has a new live action kids show called Vampirina: Teenage Vampire. Which appears to be a sequel of sorts to a cartoon they produced a few years ago. Which is all based on a series of books.

(I get to miss out on so much of this kind of stuff. Not having children, and not having been one for a while.)

Anyway, a show about a vampire dealing with teen angst sort of goes against a core concept of vampires, doesn't it? But if you want to talk about a vampire dealing with teenage problems then I suggest looking no further than Claudia from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. Lestat turned her when she was what, 5 years old? She never even got to be a teenager, which seems like a REAL problem. It's pre-teen problems for her, forever!

And if during the season Vampirina doesn't feast on at least one of her classmates, she is a complete fake as a vampire. Period.

The first season of AMC's Interview with the Vampire dives deep into . . . . well, Claudia. And her realization that she won't actually grow. She's 14 on the show (and 10 in the 1994 film, and 5 in the book).

Extended interview: Tim Curry
In 2012 actor Tim Curry suffered a stroke, after which he had to relearn how to speak. In this web exclusive, the steadfastly private Curry talks with Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz about his memoir "Vagabond," and his life, career, and medical story.OCT 19, 2025

I picked up Vagabond on Audible to accompany me back on my most recent drive out to Arizona.

Did not regret it. Despite some bits where he's clearly struggling with his voice, it was overall clear, entertaining, engaging and at times it felt like he was sitting in the back seat just telling stories while I drove. Made for a very pleasant trip.

I discovered The Rocky Horror Picture Show completely by accident. Back in the early 80's, MTV played just the "Time Warp" part, and it was so surreal & bizarre that I told all my friends and we tracked it down. I didn't get to an actual viewing/interactive screening of it until a year later when I was off to college. We bundled into a van drove from Flagstaff to Phoenix Friday evening (a 2 road trip) for the midnight show. My friends did not warn me that they were actually part of stage crew... (I was spared the 'virgin' hazing at least). I loved it, but felt the ending was kind of sad. And then we ate, packed ourselves back into the van and drove back to Flagstaff arriving at dawn. It was the only time I made it to the show.

I love the movie Clue and can quote the whole thing verbatim, I've seen it so many times. His role as the malevolent Cardinal Richelieu in the Three Musketeers was iconic. And of course, I can't imagine anyone else being in the same class when it comes to his portrayal of Darkness, in Legend.

Anyway. I haven't finished the audiobook yet... saving it for my next road trip, but I'm probably 2/3rds of the way through. Glad I grabbed it. =)

You know, I haven't watched Legend since it came out (I have Tom Cruise aversion disorder).
Going to watch this now as I do some housework. 🦄

The movie stars Darkness and Gump. Lili and what's his name are incidental. Gump's goal is to free the unicorn which would not have been captured but for human interference. He's ready to shoot the foolish girl dead and not think twice about it. He also considers killing Jack, that's his name, when the sprite wants a kiss for freedom and silly human heart doesn't want to boohoo. I just kind of ignore them except for Lili's singing (in that version) and her taunting of Darkness at the table. That's a classic scene for both actors.

Just keep reminding yourself that it's by the same director as Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise and The Martian.

June Lockhart, affectionately known as Lassie’s mom to a generation of Baby Boomers for her portrayal of Ruth Martin on the long-running series, has died. She was 100.

Lockhart, famous for playing other nurturing characters on two other CBS shows in the 1960s — the matriarch on the sci-fi drama Lost in Space and the “lady doctor” on the rural sitcom Petticoat Junction — died Thursday of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica, a family spokesperson announced.
