Am I crazy, or is there's a conspiracy to make Glen Powell the next face of Hollywood? It feels like he's in 7 movies and tv shows right now, with another 35 planned to release through the next year.

He's good looking enough, though not really the cut of meat I look for at the butcher. And he seems a pretty good actor, as these things are rated. I've looked at his IMDB page and since he was a teenager he's been banging along for over 20 years. Maybe it's just his time. Or maybe Russian hackers are behind it...

Had to look him up, the name didn’t ring a bell. I recognize him, though, yet I don’t think I’ve seen him in much. Probably just not my type of movies. Although Running Man is out.

Anyone watching Pluribus? Like it a lot.
Better Call Saul Carol!

I'm hooked too .... the grocery store bit was brilliant. =D

Whichever way it goes, I'm pretty certain about one thing the 'biological imperative' mentioned at least twice so far is really a drive to repurpose the entire planet into a rebroadcasting station, to spread the message to new planetary systems, at least until all life and resources on the planet are completely used up.

His most recent "big break" was a role in the Top Gun "sequel" from '22. Then with a popular romcom alongside Sydney Sweeney in '23, and headlining Twisters in '24, suddenly he's a heavy hitter in the leading man category.

But I think the big ad push I'm seeing right now for Chad Powers, his current series on Hulu, makes it feel like I'm seeing way too much of him.

He definitely nails the 'handsome goofball' vibe, and is fun to watch.

"Chad Powers" is very silly, punctuated with some nice heartfelt moments. Solid thumbs up from me despite my aversion to 'sport' related shows/movies. However it felt a little unfinished... and I'm not sure if a 2nd season is planned or not.

For my "Basically once a year movie outting" I went to see Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair. It works pretty well in this format, but the second half does feel a little slow given how crazy the first half is. She kills dozens of people in the first half and only Bill in the second. Heck, only Bill and Budd die in the second half (well, teechnically also the Chinese trainer dude).

Everytime I watch these I find I like Budd the most of the characters. He is just so surfsce level basic while hiding a lot more under that we never really see directly, but it also kind of shows because really he is the only one to actually defeat The Bride, and in the end, she doesn't even end up killing him.

Also you can really see Tarantino's foot fetish on display in this movie. I have seen both films a bunch but I am not sure ever on the big screen, so I guess I didn't really notice before.

Totally agree, he even says that the DVAS deserve to die.

Yep.

I rewatched large parts of David Lynch's Dune tonight. I've had a love-hate relationship with it since first watching it on Home Box Office in the late 1980's. I was too young to catch it in theaters, and ended up reading the book before seeing the film. Which colors my views on it.

There's so many cool things to be found in the movie. Many of the visuals and set pieces in the film are lovely dream - and dreadful nightmare - engines. So many good actors (and Sting) get an opportunity to chew the scenery in a Lynch production - even little Alicia Witt as Alia gets to do some gnawing. Also, the soundtrack holds up. Toto!

And yet...

I likely will be forever unable to wait expectantly, then laugh hysterically at the moment of "Usul no longer needs the Weirding module."* I'm thankful it comes so late in the film, or I wouldn't be able to get to the end.

* You have to be a Frank Herbert Dune fan to get it.

For reasons that probably relate to an attempt to market a documentary, there seems to be an orchestrated attempt underway to rehabilitate Chevy Chase's image. Lots of article placements, interviewees being deployed, etc.

Here's an example of the sort of twaddle being peddled:

Chevy Chase's wife and loved ones detail star's struggles with cocaine and alcohol abuse: 'Beast of addiction'

The narrative they seem to be trying to create is Chevy's a really nice, funny guy with a Heart-o'-Goldᵀᴹ who just got a little sidetracked by a cocaine habit measured in tonnage, followed by an equally enthusiastic alcohol abuse habit, and then a heart attack that led to an induced coma, memory loss, and personality changes blah blah blah.

I don't think anyone can deny the guy had a gift for comedy. But, in a town filled with some colossal, world-class assholes, Chevy is well-known to be near the top of the heap. Or the bottom -- depending on how you're scoring it, and this has been forever. In college, he was briefly in a band with Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, who, of course, would later become Steely Dan. THEY couldn't stand him, and they are the duo one musician called "the Manson and Starkweather of rock 'n' roll." Kevin Smith tells a story about meeting with Chevy for what would have been Son of Fletch, only to have Chase throw a major screaming hissy fit in the restaurant because Kevin wanted him to play Fletch as the dad of a new Fletch, to be played by Jason Lee. HOW INSULTING!

Since Community blew up, thanks in no small part to Mr. Chase's wildly offensive behavior, I don't think he has worked at all. He wasn't even invited to the SNL 50th Anniversary show, which he says was a "serious oversight" he "cannot understand." No one else seems the least bit mystified.

Well, if the PR firm behind this can pull it off, they'll have their future assured.
