Though, as the article to which I recently linked in the Climate Change thread points out, people don't, or shouldn't, need to agree on why extreme weather conditions are occurring more frequently before we decide to do something to mitigate their effects, no matter what the cause, only that they are in fact occurring more frequently than we had previously expected.

The fact that some people don't want to accept that CO2 emissions are responsible, at least in great part, for the climate crisis is no reason not to spend more money on preparing for floods, hurricanes, droughts, forest fires and so on, when self-evidently they're happening more frequently than they used to, and getting worse.
To be clear, I don't think billionaires intend to lift a finger to stop or slow climate change. If anything they may continue to accelerate it. Part of the push to take over Greenland and Canada is because those parts of the world, previously inhospitable during much of the year, will become warmer and more habitable.

They'll probably turn Greenland into some new breadbasket, migrate people they value there, defend it from the hordes of refugees and abandon most of the U.S. to it's flooded/charred fate. And when climate change gets so bad that every year ends up decimating the human population, 'climate change' will solve itself as the number of humans drops by 10% each year and fewer people contribute to CO2 emissions. 100-200 years in the future the prosperous neo-northern goldilocks-zone inhabitants will start feeling the chill again and use their leverage to reclaim any more southern areas that have been depopulated and returned to nature.

We're a weird species, as much as we try to plan/grow/expand/nurture/organize, we never seem to get away from those of us that are scavengers, warlords, cannibals, predators... people that with no regard to stability or continuity, exploit for their own short term gain and then move on, victimizing entire groups of people as they go while it's profitable to them. Being effectively vigilant enough to stop them is difficult without creating a force that can, overnight, turn into a raiding party of might-makes-right thugs. Or something. I've seen too many films by Kurosawa.

Probably part of why they want The Wall so badly.

Because when shit starts to get worse, there will actually be real Caravans of people flooding the border.
I think that was a small part of it. I think the larger part was to increase the scarcity/price of steel, so that Putin's 'Steel Oligarch' could peddle his inferior grade of steel and make bank on it.

I continue to be amazed at how afraid we have to be of such monumentally stupid clowns this administration is made up of.

Top Trump officials accidentally shared war plans with media
There is SO, so much wrong with this scenario! I have to wonder about how careless with our military secrets in general this administration is. There was a saying about OPSEC when I was in the Navy, "loose lips sink ships." These idiots are going to get servicemembers killed!

This won't be over in 100-200 years. The feedback loops -- such as methane release from thawing permafrost -- are gathering strength and will eventually overshadow human contributions. It will take thousands, possibly tens of thousands, of years for natural processes to draw down enough carbon to get us back in the more comfortable habitable temperature zone.

Assuming we don't end up with runaway global warming (as some fear), I would expect pockets of humans will survive here and there across the globe and find ways to adjust to a more volatile climate. In the grand scheme of things, 20-30,000 years is only 10% of the entire age of our species. We'll be fine.

I think the human species is likely to survive. As for anything resembling our modern civilization likely not. That requires vast amounts of energy, particularly oil to get going and we've already tapped most of it.

Oh absolutely. By survive I mean we'll be back to stone tools. maybe the iron age if we're really lucky.

Fuck that noise. When they flee to Greenland, I'm going to burn more shit and spray all the aerosol just to make SURE these assholes that caused this end up living through Venus 2.0 hell.

Let's survive the Trump - Putin - Netanyahu - Xi period safely first as humans.
An atomic war escalation scenario is more realistic these days than it was during the cold war IMHO.
There are unpredictable rulers on all sides this time.
After humanity has survived that, we will have to see where the climate stands, if anyone has survived that is.

I'm no climate scientist but I think that the onset of climate change is happening so rapidly that it will trigger a hard pendulum swing back. No polar caps = more solar power into the oceans = more atmospheric moisture = more clouds and a kind of 'nuclear winter' effect which will reflect a lot of solar energy back into space, rapidly dropping surface temperatures. I sorta expect it will bring about one of the fastest ice ages this planet has seen.

The feedback loops will amplify each other and when the oceanic / atmospheric currents are significantly disrupted as a result, there might localized areas of prolonged extreme heat or cold far beyond anything we've seen in recorded history.

Kinda makes me glad I'm not young.

With many immigrants gone or hiding, Florida has found a great solution to fill vacant jobs from the past: allowing minors as 14 years old to work overnight on school days. Yummy.

As Shlong Ron DeSantis said: "Why do we say we need to import foreigners, even import them illegally, when you know, teenagers used to work at these resorts, college students should be able to do this stuff."

Yeah, human bottlenecks have happened in the past.

Trump wants illegal aliens now to self-deport themselves with the CBP Home App.

"Wow, guys, look at this! Millions of illegal aliens are turning themselves in with this app! What a fantastic success this ........wait a minute ..........they're all named 'Turd Ferguson'?"

Visit Canada? *wink wink* Hockey stick and elbows complete the ensemble. Ride in on a moose? Priceless.
Visit Canada just so I can wear my new hat? Seems a waste of vacation resources...

I want one. I just don't know where I can wear one.
Speaking of MAGA hats, Tumblr was advertising Dark MAGA hats to me this morning.

I reported every single one as offensive.

Also, PS Tumblr, know your audience.
