I just want to take a moment to commend us all for the remarkable restraint we have demonstrated in the face of tremendous temptation.

Of course, I am referring to how we have not made endless New Jersey jokes about the drones, such as "Of all the places the aliens could go, they chose New Jersey?," or, "What, they're trying to get a glimpse of the Jersey Shore kids?," or even, as Colbert so rudely put it, "When we last met, these ominous sky visitors were being reported all over New Jersey. But since then, the drones have done what everyone in Jersey does: Go somewhere else."

I'm so glad we're better than that.

You can be prosecuted for abortion in the UK...

...under some circumstances. In this case the woman in question didn't know she was pregnant until after the 24 week cutoff point.

While the whole idea of prosecuting someone for having an abortion pisses me off, this case seemed to be handled in a far more understanding and compassionate way than I expected. Although I do agree that having to wait six years for the case to be heard was an unreasonable burden on the woman. I am honestly shocked that she was initially sentenced to 24 months, of which she served 1 month before it was reduced and suspended on appeal. I really cant see any justification for a custodial sentence for this crime.

I am curious though about how the handling of this case compares with cases in the US for abortions now banned.

All 51 men found guilty in the Pelicot rape trial. If you haven't been following this particular horror story:

Dominique Pelicot, one of the worst sex offenders in modern French history, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for drugging his then wife, Gisèle, and inviting dozens of men to rape her in her home in the south of France over almost a decade.

The historic trial of 51 men was held in public after Gisèle Pelicot waived her right to anonymity so that “shame could change sides”.

As much as I dislike religion.... I think I'm starting to like the Santa Claus narrative more.

Religion is complicated. Santa Claus, is relatively simple. "Be Good = get more nice stuff". Discovered the secret? KEEP IT TO YOURSELF = get more nice stuff. Someone else threatens to expose the secret, SUPPRESS THEM = get more nice stuff.

It trains children to be gullible, then complicit, then enabling tools of oligarchs.

We should have a holiday figure that's based on whistle blowing. The best we have is some anecdotal fluff about George Washingon's wooden teeth and not lying about chopping down the cherry tree, but that's a whole other issue of giving your betters leverage to use on you.

So I have to do without my Christmas because other people want change when all I wanted was to have a Christmas for the first time in several years. Maybe I should just give up on ever having a Christmas again since everyone else wants more leaving me far less than I had. Funny thing is, I had far less than they do to begin with.
