So agreeing with several prominent Democrats (like Pelosi and Obama) is being Republican now?

You had better judgements in the past to be honest.
Those "prominent Democrats" made a very stupid, short-sighted move out of fear for down-ballot races. And now we're all going to pay dearly for that.

So disheartening. This news leaves me deeply saddened. Despite how they tried to spin it as 'good for the party' and 'he's too old and decrepit', this process struck me as a pile-on by both his party and the media. Nothing equivalent ever happens in the republican side of dirt-churning. They hide it and whisper about it secretly, never dragging their own leader down into the mud.
I don't think it's a bad thing at all to be willing to speak out against the party leader publicly, as a general thing. I think the fact that no idol is beyond reproach is a strength Dems have over Republicans.

But MY GOD the time for all this to happen if it was going to happen was a freaking year ago, not right NOW. Now they have like ten minutes to find someone that the whole party can agree has been purity-tested enough to trust.

I'd like to think it's Harris, -I- like Harris. But I kind of doubt the moneybags who all just suddenly turned on Biden like Harris. If she's popular enough party-wide to bring the votes it won't matter, but...

I have mixed feelings about it. I love Biden, but I did have concerns that have deepened. Now we are in uncharted territory, which is scary. The writing was on the wall the past few days. Still, it makes me sad.
I think it’s desperately sad but it had to be done. He had a limited time to explain the debate and that time had gone.

Fuck yourself. I blame them as well.

I have voted in every primary and general election since 1984. This is the first time I have no input on the Democratic candidate. And yes, a bunch of useless tools panicked and pushed us over an abyss with no plan to move forward.

They may have one. You on the other hand have no more than passing acquaintance with how American elections work but have not been shy about telling us what to do. Not what comes after.

I would tell Pelosi to fuck right off if she were here. You are here, you have wanted this, and we fucking are going to have to try to fix this shit or else Trump is going to fuck you too. Just like you asked for.

Thinking that Biden is too old for running is not the same as applauding for Trumps reelection.

My household was split. Ironically, I was steadfast for Biden, even though in the last election he was far (far, far) from my first choice for presidential candidate. Mrs. Beebo, on the other hand, who was more pro-Biden than I was back then, has been muttering that he should step down now.

No one in power was listening to either of us, so I'm biting my tongue because it's not fair to blame her for what has happened. I'm swallowing my bitterness, but it's not easy.

If the new ticket (fill-in-the-blank) wins in November, then we can all breathe a sigh of relief. If the Dems lose, then we'll be haunted by what-ifs for decades.

You're just a fucking cheerleader for it. You have been calling for it even when you have no fucking clue what to do now that you got it. I never saw you call for Trump to stand aside. You wanted the adult out of the race and not the fascist. You got your god dammed wish. Savor it. You still don't know what happens next. The old man got shit done. But he ws too old for you. So fuck right off and live in the utopia you wihed for.

Speaker Johnson had already said Republicans may go to court to keep a replacement off the ballot in some states. So a clusterfuck at best. Will you be calling for the elder felon in cognitive decline to withdraw with the same passion? This is a win for the fascists. Hope you're fucking happy.
Anyone who does so will have to admit to the voters that they no longer care about democracy, along with any aligned groups who will be equally tarred . This is our hammer. Regardless of party Americans come down strongly in favor of fairness. We can win on this

In the past few days there were rumors spread around that some big donors of the Democrats threatened to take back their donations if Biden continues to run. I would really like to know if this threat became a reality, and some donors pushed Biden out and the Democrats into that direction. Also about the amounts of money they would have withdrawn as well, and which donors we are talking about.

For Biden it is probably the saddest day of his life. Only time will tell how this outstanding step will be viewed, either as damage control and Biden leaving in dignity while he still can so to make space for whomever, or the day Trump won.

Anyway the Democrats now have some homework to do, and find a new candidate quickly. Harris for me looks like a mixed bag, good for her is that she is already VP and people know her. Also her being much younger than Trump works in her favor as well.

The big question will be if she's white enough for the whites and black enough for the black. The recent rise of approval for Harris in pools is quite encouraging. We are going to see how this turns out if she becomes the candidate, because according to AOC not all democrats who wanted Biden out really do support that idea.

I mean she's black and a woman. It would be really great it the US finally have their first female president soon!

The Democratic convention happens after the nomination deadline for a half dozen states. It is irrelevant. If there is no nominee in the next week we lose ballot access.
So what would have happened had the assassin succeeded last week and left the Republicans without a nominee? Would they not have been in the same position as you say the Democrats are now in? Would they not have been able to nominate a new candidate?

And surely the question "what happens if we get our way?" must have occurred to the various Democratic politicians and political operatives who have been urging President Biden to stand down. Presumably President Biden gave it some thought, too, in reaching his decision.

I'm not commenting on the desirability or otherwise of this turn of events. I just find it difficult to believe that the US electoral rules mean there now can't be a Democrat on the ballot paper this November, which is what you seem to be suggesting.

Which is why Trump is pulling back from it Won't work, everyone knows he'll implement as much of it as he can The right wing is getting greedy with strong notes of triumphalism, which typically becomes a set up for failure. If not now, in two years for sure Just keep hammering we do not bow to a sovereign in your social media posts.

She's the only one currently on the ticket. Any legal challenges to ballot access are weakened if somebody not in the primaries replaces Biden. I am not comfortable with an annointed candidate, although I will vote for whoever it is (and my vote won't matter because Ohio).
