Update on the new mobile viewer.

LL Expects to release the first beta somewhere at the end of 2023, early 2024.
Here is an update from LL.
It looks promising IMHO.

Because of my slight eye problems, I will most likely never use an SL smart phone app, but Christal Frost looks cool indeed.
But I guess the LL viewer will be free of charge when it is launched, if they want it to become successful.

My understanding is that Crystal Frost will be a Unity-based viewer (which will allow it to run on Android as well as windows) whereas (I'm guessing) the SL mobile viewer will be a dedicated android app.

...but I could be completely wrong since I haven't been following much of anything very closely in recent months.

LL builds Unity based too and it should be available for apple and android in the end.

These days alpha and beta testing is used to make an extra buck on the side, almost everywhere in the gaming industry.
Lifetime accounts were useful at the moment the accounts payed up for that.
From that moment on they are financial not very interesting any longer.
So no alpha testing I guess.

It's... A viewer. My avatar didn't seem to load BOM right and the camera was a bit tricky to work.

I did not do much beyond log in and wander around my house for a few minutes.

Just tried it out on my iphone 15 plus - avatar didnt rez just stayed in an outline? Movement was a trifle jerky. No inventory so I guess you'd need to make sure youre wearing something when you log out on the main viewer?
Cant see where to type in local chat or IM - or am I being a bit thick?

Chat is available off the hamburger menu (top left).

Right now I find movement...difficult.

Teleportation is clunky, at best. I tried tp'ing to a locale in the same sim I was in at the time, but the screen claimed I was tp'ing to a different sim (which I could not tell was true or not). Then trying to tp to a "safe" spot with little concern for load left me - I'm not sure. My avatar was not displayed, and the location on the screen was strange. I think things locked up so I just closed the app.

My avatar looks OK (when it's on screen!) - my mesh body and clothing and other attachments and so on look as I expect. Except anything showing skin is pretty much black. No texture, nothing. Just black.

I'm bothered that after your first log in, there's no login screen or prompt (username/password) when you open the app. It immediately connects after opening. Not good.

Yes, I had the exact same experience, on a low end Samsung Galaxy Tab A8.

I tried it. The controls are ass, and I can't figure out how to look around, and my avatar is always looking down when I walk. They should have paid whatever it took to license Lumiya.

Performance was OK on my top of the line iPad Air with 8GB RAM and an M1 processor.
