$44 billion so he could say that the day before the election. Previously he was just one voice on Twitter, now he has the bully pulpit and many are watching what he is saying. In addition, him saying this is really crass. Can you imagine if Zuckerberg posted similarly on FB?

As to the content, once upon a time that is what voters did: they split the government to keep one party from having too much power. I never voted in such a manner, but it was a popular thought among voters. Even if someone did believe that here today, we have one party (the fascist party) who has vowed they will never *let* democrats win an election again. We are not in normal times and boy genius damn well knows it, desiring them in office for his own personal gain.

An honest post by him would have been, "Please vote Republican so that I don't have to pay taxes."

He will likely not do any of these things and launch Twitter Blue’s $8/month “verification” product on Monday. This product will be a huge mess, mostly because it has been created through labor abuse by a team that has also watched thousands of their colleagues marched out at once, but also because it’s a terrible idea that was rushed through anyway. Someone will immediately pay eight dollars to pretend to be Elon Musk, or a politician, or really anyone with any kind of major audience. An account that bought hundreds of thousands of fans could pretend to be Joe Biden.

The most foolish aspect of this all is that Musk believes the Magats will reimburse his fortune with deep appreciation for destroying what they perceive to be the bastion of liberal communication. If Twitter goes down (more like "when" from all signs), the Magats will lose their favorite playground, too. I think the Right will miss Twitter more than Lefties will. After all, it's difficult to muster outrage and indignation if you don't have liberal tweets inflaming your fragile emotions and they'll miss playing troll to poke the libs.

This is the big thing. That's why Truth Social, Gab, and other MAGA socmed never do well - it's not that there aren't enough conservatives to fill them, it's just that the novelty wears off quickly when everyone realizes it's just a big (figurative) sausage party. They NEED libs to bait or antagonize directly or it just isn't interesting.

Conservatives loved the idea of Musk buying Twitter because he basically promised that they would be allowed to invade the Great Lib Safe Space and he would, in various ways, more or less force libs to have to engage with them to some degree in order to keep using Twitter. They didn't want him to actually destroy it, lol.
