Fascinating thread on the dangers for Putin if, as some people suspect he might, he declares a general mobilisation of Russia during the May 9th Victory Day celebrations -- while the Soviet Union maintained the hugely expensive infrastructure necessary for a general mobilisation, Russia did away with it in the 1990s, so you'd end up with large concentrations of inexperienced troops, poorly led, armed, and with a huge vested interest in not being sent to the front.

Sort of like Russia in 1917.
