Democrats winning Georgia is so important. From my viewpoint orangey mostly didn't do any big favors down there today for the republican candidates rambling on with his conspiracy theories so maybe that's a plus.

When he makes it all about himself, it helps.

Grifting made easy.

President Donald Trump has raised $207.5 million since Election Day while seeking to overturn the results, according to a new report, while actually spending just a small fraction of that on efforts to challenge the vote count in key states.

[...]

But according to the Washington Post, his campaign has only spent $8.8 million on the resulting legal efforts, as well as a recount in Wisconsin — which ended up providing more votes to Mr Biden.

Stay with me on this one.

There was this game I played when I was a kid for the SNES called Urban Strike. It came out in 1994 and was the third game in a series of games (after Desert Strike and Jungle Strike) where you fly a military helicopter around various maps doing missions that involve blowing things up and rescuing or capturing some people or items. I played all three of these games and I loved them.

Anyways, so, in Urban Strike, the main villain whose plans you're working to foil is a guy named H. R. Malone who looks like uncannily like Bruce Greenwood but, well.....just watch and read the text in this video of the game intro sequence, from about the 2:00 mark to about 5:55 and tell me if any of it sounds a little....familiar. :D

"Have you got your trump yet"???

They have lost their fucking minds.
I'm okay with naming something after Trump:

"I ate a ton of prunes last night, and, man, did I have to take a major trump this morning!"

A bit superficial, to my mind, (I used to read a lot of C20th critical theory way back when) but interesting nevertheless:

Great article, and provides a side to this that is true but not often discussed. At the end are links to the writer's other stories ... I'm working through some of them right now.

EDIT: What is C20th critical theory? Got any links or searchable keywords? Thanks.

Just musing about a situation back in the 14th century: there were two popes simultaneously. One at Avignon, favored (created?) by the French king, another at Rome created by the Italian cardinals, iirc.

Trump will get one of the Supreme Court justices to administer the Oath of office to him on Jan. 20 on television, same time as Biden's Oath is administered. There's nothing in the Constitution except the Oath and Trump'll continue to claim that he won the "rigged" election, when one throws out all the "illegal" votes. So we would have two presidents, one out of his head and willing to rule by means of his supporter mob; the other there by means of our honest democratic system.

Justice Roberts, should he get wind of such a thing before it happens, will bend heaven and earth, so far as he can, to stop it; it would severely damage the reputation of the Court. But particularly Alito and Thomas are twisted enough to do the deed for Trump. A Justice is not required by our Constitution, but it lends the appropriate air of a norm being honored by having a Justice lead Trump through the Oath.
You guys really know how to make a girl not be able to sleep at night!

Breitbart...pfft.

So, if Trump takes his toys and his adoring fans away from the Republican party in the next four years, what happens? I cannot imagine him winning as an independent but on the other hand his cult following is quite strong.
Sorry, I'm playing catch-up in this thread (ten pages back), so forgive me if this has already been addressed, but...

Of the 70 million people who voted for Trump in 2020, what would you say are the percentages of actual Trump supporters versus people who voted for him because they only vote for Republicans?

If Trump struck out on his own as an independent, I have a feeling his voter base may be a lot smaller than what showed up in November.

Just my two cents, but republicans did quite well compared to orangey in the other contests in the election.

Instead they're a clown show, waving their hands around, making funny voices to mock reporters, and talking about freaking releasing krakens. It's embarrassing and he should be embarrassed.
Elect a clown, expect a circus.

It's hard to know that, but a whole lot of them that are normally rational have joined in on the "He was cheated" narrative. I think there is a definite group, though, that still wanted their Republicans, but not Trump as evidenced by the down ballot results vs the Trump result.

Were he to go independent, I can't really see him winning, but he would definitely siphon off a lot of people away from the Republican party. Thing is, though, nominally being in the Republican party has granted him a shit ton of power that he may not otherwise have had. Trump loves power and he loves holding it over others. Right now he knows he has a lot of power over Republicans. Look at how scared they are to even admit that democracy worked.

If I had to guess, It would be that Trump continues to try to exert complete and dominant control over the Republican party. It fits his m.o.

FLOTUS covered the White House with kitsch again.
The red decorations clash with the white & green of the trees and should have an anchoring color to offset against. The trees don't work with the room and look amateurish. That blocky center decoration in the bottom right photo distracts and draws too much attention to itself for being so disharmonious with everything in the room. The pale green tree in the center of the top right looks lost and drawn out like an overexposed photo. While the sparkles on the floor work well with the trees, there is just too much space and there should be some geometric feature to frame the trees. gaaah.

I'm not a designer, but after 10 years of making stuff in Second Life even I can see that no real thought went into it, so typical of this administration.

It would be a replay of 1912, except Republicans were the incumbents then. Roosevelt felt Taft had abandoned his progressive platform, so he challenged him at the convention (primaries were not really binding at the time, making a floor fight possible). When Taft was renominated, Roosevelt ran as a Progressive. Wilson won with under 42% of the popular vote because of the Republican split.
