It would be a replay of 1912, except Republicans were the incumbents then. Roosevelt felt Taft had abandoned his progressive platform, so he challenged him at the convention (primaries were not really binding at the time, making a floor fight possible). When Taft was renominated, Roosevelt ran as a Progressive. Wilson won with under 42% of the popular vote because of the Republican split.
Those were the days.

A replay, except then, the republicans were the good guys still..... >.>

Well, yeah. Wilson ended up be a racist piece of shit and his disastrous participation in the conclusion of the Great War led to the US letting England and France write the peace treaty that virtually guaranteed a second World War as well as a few others (support for decolonization could have headed off the Vietnam War).

You guys really know how to make a girl not be able to sleep at night!
What Govi describes is not how the process works. First *any* federal judge can administer the oath of office, as was done with Johnson after Kennedy was shot. They brought the first judge they could find to Air Force One and did it right there. But the person has to be *qualified* to take the Oath, as in chosen by the Electoral College, and the votes counted by the House of Representatives. The VP follows the same process as the President, so Harris would also be qualified. Trump would not be due to losing the Electoral College. He could stage anything he wants, but it wouldn't be valid, and likely no federal judge would do it.

Yup. IMHO Trumps keeps fighting the outcome of the election, because he knows the end is near for his empire the moment he shuts the door of the White House behind him for the last time.

Here's an idea that just occurred to me.

Trump owes Deutsche Bank some huge amount he's guaranteed with his personal wealth, and those loans come due in the next couple of years, as do other loans for comparable amounts, and similarly secured by personal guarantees, owed to other creditors.

Deutsche Bank had already said they'd seek to sell the debt as soon as possible if Trump lost the election, and I think the US has a legitimate security interest in ensuring Trump doesn't end up owned by hostile governments or criminal organisations.

So how about the US takes over Trump's debt, at which point he's literally owned, and at the mercy of the government?

Can we take bets now?

If Trump visits Mar-a-Lago during the holidays, will he simply not return to the White House?
Nah he'll be back.

From what I've been hearing, he's leaning toward wanting to make a big production of leaving the White House on Inauguration Day itself, and perhaps holding a campaign rally at Mar coincident with the ceremony itself , in an effort that Trump imagines will "steal" as many eyes as possible from Biden and the Inauguration Day proceedings and make the day more about himself. I think this effort is doomed to fail because I just don't see anyone actually cutting away from, or switching back and forth from, the Inauguration in order to cover a whiney Trump rally except MAYBE Fox, and lately even they're iffy.
