Maybe it was a regional thing - like I worked at a steak place and for a little while, we got a free steak dinner with the buffet if we wanted it - but completely rubbish pay and hours. I expect it was cheaper to feed us than to pay us. [And turned out the owner was embezzling so...]

Same with most places I worked at, except for the embezzling - it was cheaper to feed us then to pay us well.
I guess my employers were greedier than yours. Not so sure about it being regional since I've lived in several different areas of the country and worked food service in almost all of them at some point. It was the same everywhere I went. Of course, you could mean the region you live(d) in.

Although now that I think about it, the casinos did offer us the leftover prime rib buffet but that was only once a week.

“When I worked at McDonald’s I stole so much mfing food,” stated a fourth. “Had to be in the thousands of dollars.”
When I worked at McDonalds, everyone, and I mean everyone, including the managers, would constantly be eating food.

Often it was food that was "close to time" to dump anyway, because it was back when we kept a large back stock and they it out on a timer, but everyone did it. Especially the chicken nuggets.

We also all stole Happy Meal toys (including managers).

We got one free meal per shift as well, though I think it had to be a certain length. I beelive we got the same when I worked at Subway (early 00s).

This was mid to late 90s.

KB Toys wasn't to keen though. I discovered someone was stealing Game Boys and games and then one of the managers got fired over it and I got her job.

In the 70s and 80s all of that would have gotten you fired. You may not have realized it then and I certainly hope you recognize how wrong that was now. Stealing results in prices going up which hurts us all.

Speaking of chickens, The People's Convoy was egged by normal folk on the street. How rude...

MOAR:
LOVE it! Never in a thousand years would I have thought of throwing eggs, now that I know, next time the local nazi regime shows up, I'm bringing a couple of dozen eggs with me. Edited to say that rotten tomatoes wouldn't hurt either.

I think Covid had a lot to do with the problems we are now facing, but the government (at least in the USA) is using the divide and conquer method - doing all in their power to have us all fighting each other instead of watching them. My 2 cents on the topic. :)
The perfect description of everything the Repugs do.

That describes the government of the former guy. The present guy is trying to do what he can to improve things, but has to deal with followers and sycophants for the former guy

Everyone has the right to their own opinions. I'm the last person to debate politics. I didn't like the last guy and I don't like the current guy.

I've reached the conclusion that "the guy" doesn't really matter - it's a broken system from top to bottom. :-(

This is priceless ... Attack of the killer tomatoes!

Here's the full -- and fully epic -- back-and-forth between Trump and Benjamin Dictor, an attorney representing protestors.

Dictor: Okay. And you said that, 'If you see someone getting ready to throw a tomato, just knock the crap out of them would you.' That was your statement?
Trump: Oh, yeah. It was very dangerous.
Dictor: What was very dangerous?
Trump: We were threatened.
Dictor: With what?
Trump: They were going to throw fruit. We were threatened. We had a threat.
Dictor: How did you become aware that there was a threat that people were going to throw fruit?
Trump: We were told. I thought Secret Service was involved in that, actually. And you get hit with fruit, it's -- no -- it's very violent stuff. 🍅🍅🍅We were on alert for that.
Trump attorney Jeffrey Goldman: A tomato is a fruit after all, I guess. ... It has seeds.
Trump: It's worse than a tomato, it's other things also. But tomato, when they start doing that stuff, it's very dangerous. There was an alert out that day.
Dictor: Who were you speaking to when you said ...
Trump: The audience.
Dictor: So you were speaking to the audience when you said if they saw someone getting ready to throw a tomato, just knock the crap out of them, would you?
Trump: That was to the audience. It was said sort of in jest. Buy maybe, you know, a little truth to it. It's very dangerous stuff. You can get killed with those things. ... I wanted to have people be ready because we were put on alert that they were going to do fruit. And some fruit is a lot worse than -- tomatoes are bad by the way. But it's very dangerous ... they were going to hit -- they were going to hit very hard.
Amazing, no?
There is a long history of American politicians being barraged by fruit.
