Trump is a classless pig. I have never liked him, he's a bully, egomaniac, and lots of other things.

Biden is half alive - reminds me of Weekend at Bernies. I think they prop him up and use CGI to make his mouth move, but half the time it doesn't match the words.

I was a big fan of Bill Clinton, but I'm thinking NAFTA is why we don't make anything in the USA anymore.

Obama was respectable and seemed to care about the average person, but who knows. They are all corrupt in some way.

My guess would be that you're far younger than some of us. I could be wrong, but that's my impression based on your scornful disaffected response to finding out that politicians are corrupt. "OH MY GOD they're all bad! They're all the same!"

Those of us who have lived through 60-70 years of this country's history are far more attuned to just how different things used to be, some good, some bad. We've learned just how much difference there is between corrupt politicians with still basically good intentions and corrupt politicians with hearts as black as soot. The entire country has lurched so far to the right that we no longer have anyone who falls on the true Left, but even a Center-Right politician like Biden is infinitely preferable to the Far Right that has emerged over the past few decades. That difference is meaningful. It's a life-and-death difference for many.

I believe that we have to play the cards we've been dealt. I have little patience with people who walk away from the table because life isn't fair.

By chance today I heard some news reference to LBJ and I was struck once again by the ways in which politicians can be corrupt and yet still be effective in good ways.

I can't think of a better example of that duality than Lyndon Baines Johnson, who won elections (at least at the state level) by some less-than-ethical means. He was a wheeler-and-dealer in politics, and I don't really know any specifics, but I'd be less than flabbergasted to learn that he did favors for rich donors. And yet... and yet... this man is responsible for one of the biggest steps forward in civil rights during my lifetime. He passed that legislation despite a terrible political cost (which he knew would come). He wrestled with the horrors of a war in Vietnam, and he chose poorly, but not through avarice or malice. He was a complicated man, and the contempt I held for him in my idealistic, narrow-sighted youth has matured to respect for his courage and sympathy for his failings.

I appreciate the detailed response. Not 100% sure what you mean by life and death.. but you have every right to believe what you do, based on your own life experience. I just think I have the same right. I'm not that young, and I am tired ... no weary of left vs right, black vs white, everything going to the extreme. I didn't just find out that politicians are corrupt, but in my humble opinion - the world is beginning to spiral into an insanity I have not seen before.

No, it's not true. The truth is far more horrific. Those litter boxes in classrooms are part of shooter lock-down preparations. So school kids will have somewhere to pee if they're locked in a classroom while some armed lunatic roams the halls trying to shoot them.

Some Colorado schools are getting buckets and kitty litter so students can go to the bathroom during lockdowns if there's an active shooter

The teachers were also given first aid kits, a pop-up tent, and a Sharpie to write down the time if they have to stop the bleeding of a gunshot wound.

Well, it was either the eye-roll or the screwdriver, so I was trying -- in my obviously flawed and inept way -- to be less rude than I could be.

It wasn't that I don't like you -- since I hardly know you -- or even that we disagree. Instead, I am utterly exasperated by the quality of your arguments. So far I have found your opinions to be less than well-informed. They are based on very broad generalizations and tinged with "facts" straight out of extreme right-wing propaganda.

I pretty quickly picked up on all the red flags of someone who either knowingly or (worse yet) unknowingly parrots the Trump-Putin propaganda points of demonizing Democrats, claiming the complete failure of democracy, dismissing the press and equating activism in favor of inclusion to the extremism of fascists. The digs at Biden and Pelosi are the most obvious dog whistles, but it's all pretty familiar stuff, topped off by a Q-crazy theory to prove how "leftists" have gone off the rails.

Both sides of the very corrupted US government do whatever they want ALL the time! Nancy Pelosi being at the top of that list.

I think Covid had a lot to do with the problems we are now facing, but the government (at least in the USA) is using the divide and conquer method - doing all in their power to have us all fighting each other instead of watching them.

I've reached the conclusion that "the guy" doesn't really matter - it's a broken system from top to bottom. :-(

I don't think Cali realizes we've all known each other here for years. Most of us were on SLU, if not all of us that still post.

She dove in headfirst without even making an intro post and she hadn't "read the room".

We've given other people a second, third and sometimes fourth chance who said far worse things. Maybe she deserves one, too.
