Yeah, it's not huge changes.

I'm kind of thinking that it was just decided that with the upcoming tweaks, on top of everything that has already changed about it over the last several years, it was decided that the OS is different enough from Windows 10 when it launched, to justify a name change. It just feels to us like not a huge difference because the changes were all rolled out slowly over years and we don't really think in our heads of the way Windows 10 actually looked on day one 6 years ago.

Maybe I am in the minority, but tht notification bar is one of the most annoying things in Windows 10. I get annoyed at notifications popping up over things I am doing, but now they have a place to linger for eternity.

Start > Settings > System > Notifications & actions.

The only setting I'd want is to tell Windows how long to allow a notification to hang out in the sidebar.

I am really curious if previous purchases from Amazon's app store will carry forward on this at all.

They used to give away apps daily, and having a kindle tablet, I have a few others from there.

So I ran Microsoft's Windows 11 "health check app" and it told me I can't install it.

This is an 18 month old high-end system ( ASUS PRIME X570‐P motherboard / AMD RYZEN 7 3800X 8 core processor / 16 GB RAM). If I can't run it, who can?

I have an older but well spec'd tower, and it looks like the problem I have is that TPM isn't active.

The requirement for TPM would seem to be a major hurdle, none of my desktops have a module installed, not sure about the laptop.

And I'm not sure what percentage of prebuilts (if it's even installed) or laptops have it enabled in bios by default.

I had it disabled and just enabled it today to see what version I had. I don't use Hello or Bitlocker.

Yes Ryzen chips are compatible but you will need to enable TPM in the UEFI/BIOS.

So the newer hardware requirements might justify a new version number. It makes less sense to just call it another service update to Windows 10 if a substantial number of machines that are able to run W10 just fine won't be able to run the new version.

Yes, but you still can move it back if you want to.

It may well be a lot of us with desktops we've built are going to be searching for a TPM module to buy. Not sure how many prebuilt desktops will have them.
I'll have to ask the local PC parts supplier "Do you think you'll be stocking TPM modules in light of Windows 11 requirements?"
My laptop fails the DX12 requirement (as expected)
