SLU had a couple of moments I'm not all that proud of.

Like, the whole "Mildred" thing. The way people were treated who came to SLU to complain about InWorldz' problems, doesn't look good in the mirror considering what we all know ended up happening to InWorldz.

I think those kinds of moments were very few and far between though.

Well. SLU was a lot harsher in the beforetimes, perhaps some of those folks on that thread haven't been around SLU since then.

I don't know how many folks still here were around for the pile-on what-happened-to-their-meds style of character assassination that was not all that uncommon, quite a few years ago.

I found it quite revealing that those who claimed to have been attacked for their opinions didn't go into detail what those opinions were.

I don't really understand the reference so probably I'm getting it wrong, but I do understand why some people do give somewhat short shrift to new accounts whose first post is an attack on someone, be it someone in SL or another grid.

If it's a forum regular posting then I will take it seriously, but otherwise I have no way of knowing if it's a valid complaint or a simple "drive-by hit job," as I've seen it called. I tend just to ignore such posts but I know others react rather more vocally.

Well if anyone ever finds themselves thinking of my posts are too harsh, it might help to reread them while imagining me with no pants on. I’d say more than 50% of my posts were written while I was on the toilet. I’m not nearly so intimidating with my panties around my ankles.

After further consideration, if I happen to be in steel toed boots at the time, panties on boots isn’t so much less intimidating but more “WTF am I looking at right now” which could also apply to my posts.

I have to disagree. We can be /brutal/ to new people who do or say things outside our normal scope. It doesn't happen often, but the pile-ons can be epic and cruel (and I'm not talking about the group wrong-headedness about pre-bacon). Most of the time, we're pretty nice, and we can be awesome when someone is in trouble or upset. But, the reputation was not totally unearned.

SLU/VV1 is a large and lively community, that in internet terms is older than dirt. There would be something deeply wrong going on if there weren't moments that members might find regretful.
