Connecticut's incombent Democrat governor is hated by everyone , so it was expected to be a close race between the new Democrat candidate and the semi Trump leaning Republican. When I went to bed the Republican was leading but when I woke up the Democrat had won!

In CT there is a minor party called "Working Families Party" which typically endorses Democrat candidates. So I was able to vote for the Democrat candidates without votinng for the Democrrat party ;)

Sessions has resigned as AG. Whitaker will be acting AG. He has already criticized the Mueller investigation for crossing the red line of looking into the Trump family's finances in an Op-Ed for CNN. He also stuck up for Don Jr's Trump Tower meeting (totally not Russian collusion!) Whitaker just called for limiting the scope of the Mueller investigation. That worked out so well with the investigation into Kavanaugh. Here we go. Is it time for Mueller to hit the "leak indictments" button now?
It's a bit late for Trump to make a difference, other than speeding up the timeline for his own impeachment. Even if Mueller is fired tomorrow, a Dem House can still subpoena all the records he collected and call witnesses (precedent: the crap they pulled with Hillary). And the 35 Trump campaign workers + Russians who have already been indicted can't be unindicted - the ones who were sentenced by state courts can't even be pardoned. If Whitaker defunds the investigation (which he's hinted at already), the House could just start a new investigation and even investigate Whitaker for obstruction of justice. Then there's the matter of D.T.'s tax returns. I have a feeling that's a gold mine of incrimination.

Right now there is absolutely nothing Trump can do to avoid the Fickle Finger of Fate.

No Bernie Sanders, that's literally racism.
Has he forgotten about Obama? What's this about white folks being uncomfortable voting for a black person *for the first time in their lives*?"

He needs to stop making excuses for them. This is why he is past the time when he should be running for President. He's of that generation that thinks that what he said makes perfect sense and is acceptable.

Obviously the USA and the UK are very different, but while I remember hearing that kind of comment in our Labour Party some 40 years ago ("He'd make a very good candidate somewhere like Brixton but a lot of the voters around here wouldn't like it") it was rapidly becoming unacceptable even then. While I don't have much first-hand experience of the Conservatives, even they dropped that attitude when David Cameron took over as Leader of the Opposition back in 2005 and promoted his "A list" of women and ethnic minority candidates for winnable seats (one of the beneficiaries of this policy, it has to be said, was Louise Mensch).

Yes, Bernie Sanders really should know better, I would have thought.

It wasn't the first clue either. He drew ire when he credited President Obama's success to charisma earlier in the year.

His most notable policies to help PoC are justice reform, pushed by Sean King. Other than that, racism is supposed to disappear if more people are out of poverty.

As a Missourian, I'm a little surprised that McCaskill/Hawley wasn't talked about a bit more. McCaskill isn't as sexy as O'Rourke, but this was a very winnable race that we lost.

Take a look at the gap in the polls being a toss up, then Hawley ending up ahead 6 points:

RealClearPolitics - Election 2018 - Missouri Senate - Hawley vs. McCaskill

That campaign was very frustrating to watch. Hawley seemed to have our dip shits convinced McCaskill is as liberal as Dianne Feinstein, which is objectively false. She was one of the most conservative democrats and voted with Trump 44.9% of the time:

Tracking Congress In The Age Of Trump

Hawley literally claimed that McCaskill always opposed Trump as a knee jerk reaction and voters here seemed to eat it up.
