Thread: Livetweet of Judge Timothy Kenny hearing applications to throw out the Republicans' frivolous lawsuits over the count in Michigan.

HHJ Kenny has reserved judgement, which he will deliver in writing on Friday, but it doesn't look good for the Republicans -- judges like evidence, which the Republicans rather seem to lack.

To be fair, Twitler was never my president either. And he never considered himself mine either, since I loathe him.
As far as I am and have been concerned, Joe Biden is our 45th President. How this country managed to survive 4 years without a leader is a miracle.

Apropos of nothing:
So, does this mean I can stop dying my hair and passing for white?

I don't know, it all sounds like noise. Biden isn't officially president elect until the electoral college votes on it on December 14 and her signature probably doesn't make a great deal of difference before then anyway.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is Mississippi. It would be crazy if he wasn't repeating common country club barroom hunting lodge church house conversation. The Purity truly believe it will happen one day just as surely as they're supernaturally immune from poverty and disease.
When I lived in Alabama, we were glad to have Mississippi as neighbors because it meant we weren't in 50th place in various rankings.

All of this discussion of the silliness of their legal efforts is besides the point. Trump is milking his base for contributions to "fight the fraud". In the fine print it actually says most of the money will go to pay off campaign debts (which probably exist because they embezzled the funds by spending it on their own services). If he concedes or stops the legal stuff, the money train comes to a stop. It's a cash grab, a con, and they know it.

How the fuck does a person like this gain power with a following of crazypants? Dunno, Johnson, Brexit, who knows.
I wrote this comment to a New York Times article this morning on the subject:

The root problem is rural areas are less educated and falling behind economically. The US is
becoming more diverse and educated as a whole, but the growth is mostly in urban areas.

In these circumstances it is easy to blame people different than you for your problems,
whether that difference is skin color, origin, religion, location, or politics.

These people then get exploited by those who want political power, often to their own
detriment. But fear and hate can cloud your judgement and make it easy to follow someone
who promises to "fix it", when the real answer is to stop blaming others and fix yourself.

------

The comment ended there, but since then I have thought more on it and would add:

Fixing yourself and your own problems takes real work. Blaming others is the easy way out.
It is a sign of laziness on the part of the ones doing it. To me, that means trying to change them,
educate them, etc. is doomed to failure. What seems more likely to work is change the root economic
problem. Send infrastructure, clean energy, etc jobs to the places that are the most behind, the way
the TVA brought electricity to the rural South. There's a reason FDR was elected four times.

Lawyers concerned with damage to the rule of law, film at 11.

JACK CADE. I thank you, good people:– there shall be no money; all shall eat and drink on my score; and I will apparel them all in one livery, that they may agree like brothers, and worship me their lord.

DICK. The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers. -- Henry VI Part 2, Shakespeare

If they called themselves geniuses, that's how you'd refer to them?
Genus, as in homosapiens tyrannus, a degenerate offshoot from homosapiens.

The genius of a bureaucracy is that it can continue to function without a head. People just continue to do what they have been doing before, and following the rules previously set down. The flaw in an absolute monarchy is sometimes you get a bad king, and then you lose the American colonies or get your head chopped off.

This isn't correct. The Presidential Transition Act requires the GSA to recognize the winner once it is reasonably certain. Certain tasks, like FBI background checks for incoming appointees take time. They can't wait for the last day to do them. Incoming people need to get familiar with the ongoing activities and staff of the agencies they will be working at. This also takes time. At the latest, the transition should start once sufficient states are done with the counting, which many will do in the next week or two.

OK. All the same, I think it may be better if Trump drags it out, since sooner or later all of those republican senators will have to take a stand. They can be with him or with the election. They need to show their true colors to the country.

That is not the case. Normally, as soon as the election is called the GSA admin will sign and the transition will begin. Every day that Biden isn't briefed on national security matters and doesn't receive the messages sent to him officially through the State Department is a day that the adversaries of the US get to plan and possibly do things without the new administration being able to plan a response.

In addition, we're in a pandemic. Because Biden isn't being given a transition, he's not getting the classified data he should around the pandemic, either. This delay is hurting national security and helping to 'legitimize' Trump's claims that the election isn't settled yet. It undermines democracy.
